The Bachelorette 3
Poor Jerry Fades Into The Sunset, Alone
Commentary By AP N Tenn
March 1, 2005
After weeks of watching, and months of rumors, the Bachelorette series has comes to an end, and what are we left with? Nothing. At the end of the 3 hour finale, there was no proposal, no wedding plans, nothing.
Jenn turned to Jerry and tells him that they are best as friends. What? Are you kidding me, she waited months to tell him she wants to be his friend? The man had a ring in his pocket, this was live TV, and she wants to be his friend. The very fact that he stayed on the stage after this announcement was a testament to his shock. Clearly Jerry had to be stunned. I mean the man had a ring in his pocket, and had not seen Jenn in months, he had written a song, professed his love on national TV, and it all comes down to her telling him she wanted to be friends. Where is his US weekly cover?
His 15 minutes of fame has essentially ended, sure he may end up on The View, or Good Morning America, and maybe a couple of other ABC shows, but gone are the magazine covers, the interview with Oprah, he will be a has been faster than it takes you to read this article.
What about the rumors that Jenn was so smitten with one bachelor, that there was massive editing to cover it up, clearly that was just as much a lie, as we were led to believe that Jenn was searching for true love. Frankly I don't know why Jenn even did the show, she had 25 men vying for her love, she even helped with the picking, and the man that was left standing at the end was dumped on a couch months later, with a ring burning a hole in his pocket? How are the fans supposed to feel good about this?
This show has gone so far into the toilet, ABC will need a map to find its way out. Gone are the days of rushing home, sitting on the edge of your couch during the finale. I have watched this series since its inception. I was a dedicated fan when Michel chose Amanda over Trista, I cheered when they brought Trista back to find her soul mate, and was surprised when she picked the soft-spoken Ryan over Charlie, but happy that she had found true love. I watched happily as Aaron chose Helene, and sent a crying Brooke home. I was so sure that Bachelor Bob would choose Estella that I made a bet on it, the very first time that I had been right!
A true fan has to be disappointed, after weeks of watching, Jenn cast off all of those men, and we just knew she would find true love. I had Jerry picked from the beginning, just because of the time that they spent together, and the fact that he was the first to get to kiss Jenn, the first that made the major impression on her. But we were all duped. All of the weeks were wasted.
Poor Jerry will fade off into nowhere; his reality 15 minutes of fame is up. Why was Jenn picked as the bachelorette anyway? Why not bring in Trish from the Jesse Palmer bachelor days, the lady who claimed to have slept with married men regularly, the lady who made that particular series worth watching, why was Jenn chosen over her? I feel we the fans were cheated, and I plan to let ABC know it.
Previews were shown of the next Bachelor will start in a month. This particular Bachelor is a C- rated actor Charlie O'Connell, whose only claim to fame is his brother Jerry O'Connell, who was probably initially slated to do the show, but then fell in love with model/actress Rebecca Romanji. Again the setting is New York City. The tabloids have cast Charlie O'Conell as a career playboy who has no interest in getting married, so why is he doing this show? Why can't ABC find a firefighter or a teacher or just an everyday guy to do this show, why can't they scrape up Matthew, who was cast off by Meredith, he would be the perfect bachelor. I personally will no longer be watching.
