Rob And Amber Get Married
Recap by AP N Tenn
May 25, 2005
Proclaimed the wedding of the year. Set in the exotic islands of the Bahamas, Rob and Amber get married.
The lovely couple is met at the helipad by none other than Colin Cowie - wedding/party planner to the stars including Oprah, Jerry Seinfeld and tons others, he played a major role in NBC’s Race To The Altar. Rob immediately figures that Colin is gay, as if that matters, since his services come FREE to you Mr. Mariano. Colin challenges Rob to come up with a surprise for Amber and Amber is supposed to come up with something special for Rob.
Colin sits the couple down and over drinks asks how many guests they want, Amber yells out 500, sure why not with CBS picking up the tab, why not 1,000. Colin wisely informs her that the number should be something with a 2 in front of it.
Near the end, we find out the actual number of guests is 230, and that includes no former Survivors or Amazing Racers.
Off to Amber’s hometown we go, so that she can have a wedding shower, and to show Rob off to her friends and family, there is a little drama as Rob shows up late, but makes it up to her with flowers. Apparently Amber is getting a friend of the family to design her wedding dress, no Vera Wang for this small town girl, much to Colin’s dismay.
Next up is Rob’s hometown visit and Rob is subjected to dance lessons, so that he can make a good impression for his first dance at the wedding. Afterwards, Rob meets his boys at the bar and asks his pals to help decorate his new Florida home, which turns out to be his special surprise to Amber that Colin challenged him to earlier.
More drama arises as Amber goes to pick up a super extremely large Boston Red Sox painting, that she has commissioned some guy to paint for her, she then takes it to Ace Hardware and tells them to have it shipped to Florida by the next day. I was not even aware that Ace Hardware had a shipping service; here I thought all they sold was hardware. The guy said no problem, Hello, I guess because CBS had the cameras on him.
Rob heads off to Los Angeles to shop at some exclusive store that Amber likes; they only show the name for a split second, so they may want to rethink all of the mass publicity they expected to get after the show. I’m guessing that CBS is picking up the tab for this little shopping spree, since Rob goes around picking up 2 and 3 of items left and right. At one point he requests 13 of the Amber candles. The store appears to only be open for Rob and his friend.
Amber is then shown at the Boston Red Sox training facility to get her huge gigantic painting signed by the team members; this is Amber’s super special surprise for Rob. Back in Pensacola, Rob is Mr. Big bucks in the local stores as his buys paint; clearly CBS is footing the bill for this, as he buys paint for every room, since Amber does not like white walls.
Meanwhile Amber is frantically yelling at players to try to get them to sign her super huge gigantic painting, initially the guys are passing her up despite the shortie Red Sox gear she is wearing for the occasion. Slowly but surely, the guys start coming over. Johnny Damon pauses to let them know that it would be his pleasure to autograph this picture for Boston Rob.
Back at the Florida house, Rob tries to rouse his guys as the furniture begins arriving, wait the walls are still white. How in the world will the guys ever pull it off? Rob has spent a pretty CBS penny, as the men unload what looks like the whole store! Rob has to leave his guys as they are painting, as soon as he closes the door, they take an as scheduled beer break.
Amber takes a call from the hometown dress designer, who demands that she makes a trip down to PA for a fitting. But Amber must go to the Bahamas for a tasting. Clearly CBS is loaning the happy couple a private jet. In the Bahamas, Colin is all ready for them with tons of food of drinks and wines for them to taste. After the tasting, Colin gives them a long list of stuff they have to do. Amber and Rob walk around or a few minutes, then board the CBS corporate plane off to NYC. Amber breaks down while Rob is checking into a luxury hotel, Rob says he is pissed off, it is unclear why, and I am still trying to figure out what is in NYC. Amber continues to boo hoo in the limo as Rob is fussing about the time they have left to plan the wedding - off to a commercial we go.
