A Kinder - Gentler Results Show
American Idol Commentary
By Evan D. Baltz
March 3, 2005
After watching last week's American Idol results show, I was so upset with the treatment of the contestants that I wrote an article voicing my outrage.
I heard from so many of you expressing the exact same feelings. E-mails poured in as person after person shared their own personal frustration with the tone of the results show. Internet message boards were full of similar sentiments.
So the big question for this week's show was would Fox listen to their audience's complaints?
My first stated complaint last week was the length of the show. This week, the results show was cut by 1/2 hour.
My second complaint was about how they tricked some of the kids into thinking they were safe and torturing them with the results. This week the show was much more straightforward and far less manipulative.
My final complaint was forcing the just voted off vocalists to sing their song again. It seemed cruel. This week the final goodbye songs were eliminated.
So I would say, all in all, Fox did listen to all of us. They addressed each of the points in my commentary from last week. Maybe someone from the show read the article, or maybe Fox just received so many e-mails from all of you that the message was communicated. Hopefully there will be no backsliding next week. Thank you for all your thoughts and comments.
Now I can get back to continuing to correctly pick the next round of eliminations. Two weeks of 3 for 4 for me. If it wasn't for Janay Castine, I would really be doing well. As you can see from the rest of the staff here, not many of us can figure out why she is still around. I think her time will be up before too long though.
