American Idol: Chocolate With A Nasty Center
Scott Savol Is Not A Worthy Idol
By Evan D. Baltz

The box of chocolates continues. In case you didn't hear, The Smoking Gun reports that American Idol contestant, Scott Savol, "was once arrested for felony domestic violence after roughing up his infant son's mother during a Valentine's Day fracas…Savol eventually took a plea to a reduced misdemeanor disorderly conduct rap and was fined $500, placed on a year's probation, ordered to complete a domestic violence or anger management program, and sentenced to a suspended 20-day jail term."
I don't take pleasure in another person's problems, but I had a feeling something like this would come out about Scott. I hope that for those of you who for some reason support Scott with your votes will now change your mind. There are enough violent people in the public eye. We don't need another one.
This guy doesn't deserve to be in the top 5 or 6 talent wise and certainly doesn't deserve to remain on the show now that we know he has done jail time. We are looking for an "Idol", someone to admire and look up to. Someone we aspire to be like. Someone we are to listen to.
USA Today reports however, "According to a statement issued by Fox and Idol producers Thursday night: 'Scott Savol was forthcoming to the American Idol producers and the network regarding his misdemeanor. After reviewing the facts, in which the charges were reduced to disorderly conduct, we felt that considering Scott's honesty and his remorse, the situation did not warrant his disqualification.'"
Oh well that makes it all better, he was forthcoming about being a woman abuser. Let's all forgive him and make him our Idol. Please. Fox, do the right thing and kick him off the show, just like you did with previous shady contestants. If you don't, we all will, and have even less respect for you.
I only received one e-mail in support for Scott based on my challenge from yesterday. The response suggested that I was only concerned about looks. Actually looks has only about 1/10th to do with it. I liked Clay and Reuben, not because of how they looked, but because they could actually sing consistently and had likeable personalities. Scott Savol is a convicted criminal. Does anyone care to defend his being on the show now? If he believes he has the talent to be a recording star, he can take the normal path to fame, and we'll see how that turns out. More power to him.
