Fire Me Up!!
Commentary by Mike Meilinger

I have to admit I am FIRED UP. I just finished reading a review of Fire Me Please by Andy Dehnart on another reality web site. He totally trashed the show and for the love of Blog, I don't know why. This show is funny!!! For those of you who missed it, the premise is simple. Two contestants start different jobs. On the first day of employment they are suppose to ACT badly enough to be fired. The owners of the establishment are in on the joke, but the other employees and supervisor are not. But here is the catch. They must be fired as close to 3:00 pm as possible, but not after. The person whose firing is closest to 3:00 wins $25,000. Half way through the show a second pair of contestants do the same thing, but with different jobs and places of employment. At the end of the show the fired employees return to where they were fired and reveal that they were only, get this ACTING!!! Yes, admittedly the scenes and emotions that follow are straight out of Candid Camera, but who cares. It is still great fun.
The problem that some over zealous writers (including dear old Andy D.) are having is that the contestants were too good at being bad. I have to admit I questioned immediately the vocation of the first two contestants. After some "in depth investigations" several writers have pointed out that Kurt Basa and Cherise Bangs were both indeed actors. OH THE HUMANITY!!! The bottom line, so freakin what!!! They were very funny. OK, some people don't like the fact that they were led to believe that the contestants were every day schleps like us. I apologize if in fact you are not an every day schlep like me. Well truth be told, most of us couldn't pull off such an outrageous stunt and at the same time be hilarious doing it. All CBS has to do is start promoting the show by saying, "We took two wannabe actors (instead of two every day schleps). There you go, problem solved.
There was a laugh track used during the show but it was unobtrusive. In fact, the air conditioner in our room totally blocked it out. It was only after Andy's astute observations that I went back and noticed that it was indeed present. You got me Andy!!! They really should take this out. Most of us schleps know when and how to laugh!!!
To be honest with you I'll watch the show and probably laugh my butt off no matter who they have performing the skits. Hell, I'd even watch it if Constantine Maroulis was in it. In fact, he probably would be great. He could play a pop singer wanting to sing…Sorry; I just had to throw that in. And yes I know, I said the "C" word!!!
