Former Bachelor Matt Grant has weighed in on the controversy surrounding current Bachelor Jason Mesnick’s decision to end his engagement to Melissa Rycroft and ask for a second chance with runner-up Molly Malaney.
Grant, who proposed to Shayne Dahl Lamas on The Bachelor: London Calling, says he thinks Mesnick should have handled the situation differently.
“This guy kind of committed suicide. He’s a nice man. I’ve met him quite a few times. But I think he should have gone about it differently,” Grant tells People magazine.
Grant, who split with Lamas in July 2008 and is now dating publicist Sarah Robarts, says he does respect Mesnick for having “the guts to say, ‘I screwed up.’”
Mesnick and Malaney recently told People they were enjoying their relationship and their dates off camera. Rycroft has moved on from Mesnick and is currently competing on Dancing with the Stars. She said her new boyfriend is determined to attend every show.
