Jillian Kuras American Idol 4: Episode 15
The Top Ten Girls Perform

By Jillian Kuras
March 2, 2005

Welcome to Tuesday night on American Idol! Tonight the remaining 10 girls will be singing. America will once again vote, and the bottom two will be joining the bottom two men on the next plane home.

Ryan begins by introducing us to the ladies who are seated in the red room. Ryan tells us that the women have their work cut out for them after the men's great night last night. Ryan then briefly chats with the judges and Randy tells us he thinks the girls are going to bring it tonight.

First up tonight for the ladies is Aloha Mischeaux. Aloha sings You Don't Know My Name, and I actually didn't like it all that much. She looks gorgeous, and she's definitely a good performer, but her voice didn't shine tonight at all.
Since we didn't see Aloha at all in the previous rounds, I was really looking forward to her in these semi-finals. Last week was definitely better for her though. Not only did I not like this song choice, but her annunciation was horrible. She was very mumbly in spots and half the time I couldn't even tell what she was saying.

The judges are all pretty much unanimous. Randy says it wasn't her best, and that it was below par. Paula says that it was not a good idea for Aloha to sing an Alicia Keys song. Simon agrees and says that her performance was affected and not as good as last week.

Next up is Lindsey Cardinale. Does anyone else think this girl looks really familiar? It's been driving me crazy, I can't figure out who she reminds me of! Anyways, Lindsey sings I Try to Think About Elvis which is an upbeat country sounding song. After the first two words she has the whole audience up on their feet clapping along. Lindsey actually gives a really strong performance! I didn't expect her to do an up tempo song, and this is definitely something different for her. Her voice is strong, and overall I loved her performance.

Randy tells Lindsey the performance was better than last week, but that she needs to work on stretching her vocal range a bit more. Paula agree with Randy and adds that it was fun to see her do an up tempo song. Simon however says he wasn't crazy about it. He says he hated the song choice, and that he thinks he won't remember her. He tells her she is going to need to do better if she wants to make it to the top twelve. I actually agree with all the judges. It definitely was better than last week, but I think she can be even better than this.

Up next is Jessica Sierra who tells us she is a country girl at heart. She sings A Broken Wing which is a song Diana sang the heck out of last season. What's up with all the country singers all of a sudden? I thought Carrie was the only country girl? I'm confused. Even though Jessica sounds ok, the performance is a little too cheesy for me. It was like she was trying to put too much into the performance and it was a little too staged. Her voice is decent, but I'm still iffy with her.

Randy says it was really good, and Paula says she did a great job at making the song all her own. Simon says it was amazing and that it was the best female performance so far in the competition. Hmm, am I missing something? I definitely didn't like it as much as the judges did.

The next contestant is Mikalah Gordon. Tonight she is dressed as conservative Mikalah instead of energetic crazy Mikalah. She sings God Bless the Child which is an extremely odd choice for her. I think she has made it this far in the competition not because of her voice, but because of her personality. So, I'm surprised she picked a ballad tonight. Vocally, it's a pretty good performance. It starts out a little boring in the beginning, but the ending is pretty good. I'm assuming she is showing us the calm, conventional Mikalah tonight because of the comment Simon made last week that some people will find her annoying. Even though she wasn't annoying tonight, I'm still not crazy about her. Take away her quirky personality, and I don't think there is anything special about her.

Randy tells Mikalah that he loves her and that she is ambitious to attack that song. Paula says Mikalah nailed it and that she is very proud of her. Simon tells her it was a joy to watch and listen to. Simon also says it really showed her talent, and that she wasn't annoying in the slightest. See, I knew that was why she picked a ballad! She's trying to scrape together all the votes she can.
