American Idol 4: Episode 26
The Top 10 Results Show
By Jillian Kuras
March 31, 2005
Welcome to Wednesday night on American Idol! Tonight, the contestant with the lowest amount of votes will be packing up and heading home. After last night's theme of songs from the 90's, I said the bottom three SHOULD be Constantine, Anthony and Scott with Scott going home. But I thought it WOULD be Anthony, Jessica, and Scott again with Scott going home.
Ryan begins the night by telling us that 32 ½ million people voted last night. Once again, this is the most votes the show has ever gotten excluding the finales. Next, we see a recap of last night's show. All the contestants are shown getting positive remarks except for Scott, Jessica, and Anthony. Hopefully my bottom three predictions will come true!
Next, Ryan tells us that the contestants will be singing their third and final choice for their new single. After tonight's show, America will have twelve hours to vote for their favorite on the AI website.
Tonight's song is called Everything is Beautiful. Ugh, what is up with these song choices? They seem to get worse and worse each week. The contestants sound good, which is nice, but the song is terrible. Who originally released this song? Maria and Luis from Sesame Street? Seriously, 'Everything is beautiful in its' own way. Like a starry summer night or a snow covered winter's day. Everybody's beautiful in their own way. Under God's heaven, the world's gonna find a way.' What happens next? Big Bird and Snuffy walk out hand in hand (or hand in trunk) and sway to the music? Ugh. All the three of the songs stink.
One question though, no matter what song wins, will the entire top twelve get to record it? If tonight's wins, does that mean that Lindsey and Mikalah won't be included in the recording?
After tonight's hideous song, we are treated to a commercial break. After the break, we are shown the latest Ford sing along that the contestants do each week. Sticking with the Sesame Street theme, tonight the contestants are being played by singing and dancing puppets! Perfect! At least the producers are consistent.
Finally, it's time to identify the bottom three. First up to be recapped is Nikko. Since he is first on the couch, he is of course safe. Next in line is Constantine who is also safe. Next up is Carrie, who of course is safe as well. Bo is next and he is told that he is safe too.
Next up is Nadia, and unfortunately she is the first to be told she is in the bottom three. Come on America! There is no way Nadia should be in the bottom three. Not even close. Next up is Jessica. She is also in the bottom three. What? Two females in the bottom three? Even though I predicted Jessica would be there, there is no way that two girls should be in the bottom. I think that all four girls have way more talent than the majority of the guys.
Next up is Scott. Ryan tells him he is… safe. Are you kidding me? Is tonight's show a joke? There is absolutely no way that Jessica and Nadia should be in the bottom three while Scott is sitting comfy on the couch. That is pure crap America. I'm not sure who is voting for Scott but it is really unfortunate for the other contestants who actually have some talent.
That leaves Anwar, Vonzell and Anthony. Their recaps are read, and Ryan of course takes another commercial break. After the break, we learn that Anwar is in the bottom three. I didn't pick him, but I'm not surprised. Anwar has lost his spark over the past few weeks and his song choice was one of the worst last night.
So with a bottom three of Jessica, Nadia and Anwar, I just hope it isn't Nadia. I still think she is one of the strongest competitors on the show. As for Jessica and Anwar, I think Scott, Constantine and Nikko all should have gone before either of them. Not right at all!
Ryan next turns to Simon and asks him which of the contestants who are sitting on the couches deserve to be in the bottom three. Simon says that he would have exchanged Scott for Nadia. Amen Simon! That's why you're the man! Scott gives Simon a look that says 'meet in the back parking lot after the show' and shrugs his shoulders. Clearly Simon doesn't know who is voting for Scott either.
Ryan decides to deliver some good news and tell the contestants which one of them finished in third place. They will of course be safe. That person is… Nadia. Oh thank the Lord. Poor Nadia. I know there have been many successful Idols who did their time in the bottom group (Ruben, Kim Locke, Fantasia, Diana, etc.) but I hate when America votes for something other than talent.
After another break, Ryan quickly chats with the judges. Both Jackson and Paula agree that neither Jessica nor Anwar deserve to go home tonight. Finally, Ryan delivers the news. The contestant going home tonight is… Jessica Sierra. Tough break for her. And sad too. Even though I was iffy about Jessica, I do believe that she was better than Scott, Constantine, and Nikko. Maybe even Anthony too.
I think singing country last night could have hurt Jessica. Carrie pretty much owns the country fan base that follows the show so she and Jessica may have split the votes last night. Also Simon's comments about not being likable certainly didn't help her either.
I still can't believe that three females have already gone home while all six men are still here. The producers purposely made the final twelve six men and six ladies because they said they were "embarrassed" that last years top four were all females. So, are they equally embarrassed that their top nine consists of six men and three ladies?
I really thought a male would be going home tonight, mainly because there are some really crappy men left. After the show, I decided to do something that I rarely do (because I hate them); I visited the official AI message board. Here is what other fans think about tonight's result of another female getting the boot:
Helios25 started a discussion by asking, "I'm wondering why all of the 3 to go so far were all females?? I don't think Jessica deserved to go this week. Are too many young females voting (& voting & voting x 1,000) for a male singer because they have crushes??"
Helios brings up a valid point, especially in my opinion in Constantine's case.
Sunkissedmem agreed with Helios by adding, "I think you hit the nail on the head. The teenage girl vote is making the difference in this year's competition."
DeeDeeW31 adds the sarcastic comment that "It must bite to know that Nikko, who was called back from the trash heap, has beaten out three female finalists."
Catsrkoo1 adds "I like Constantine too and I just know that he is getting a lot of votes from the teenage girls cause lets face it, he is HOT."
Thanks for proving our point Cats.
The overall consensus on the board seems to be the same. A female should not have gone home this week. And most people believe that Scott has overstayed his welcome. And nobody knows who votes for him.
See you all next Tuesday. Hopefully America will have cleaned out their ears by then.
