Amish In The City
A Memo To UPN From The RTVC Readers

Amish in the City was a good reality TV show. It was a unique idea. It was interesting to watch most of time. The show built toward a conclusion as viewers were excited and interested to see what kind of life each Amish house guest would choose. One problem though. UPN dropped the ball. They changed the night of the finale and loyal viewers missed what they had waited nine weeks to find out.
How do I know this? As the RealityTVCalendar.com reviewer of the show, I have received countless e-mails from frustrated viewers who missed the finale and had to turn to RealityTVCalendar.com's invaluable service of show recaps to find out what happened. We posted a recap, but viewers still want the chance to see the show.
Here is a sample of some of the comments I have received:
Thank you for your recap on the Amish. I was so upset when I realized I had missed the finale. Thanks to your piece I know what the Amish people decided. I think UPN did a terrible job with the finale air date. It was if they were trying to sabotage their own ratings. I sent the producer a complaint but have not heard back. I did enjoy this show even though I do not watch reality TV. I liked to watch the people over come their prejudices and experience things for the very first time. Thanks again, Liz
Well, what a bummer. I made a point not to miss it and guess what. I missed the last one. I wouldn't have but the TV guide had it listed for Wednesday night. I know it going to be on Saturday but I'm going out of town and the place I'm going to has no cable. I guess I'm just SOL. Better luck next time maybe. Thanks for the article. A loyal fan
Thank you so much for the recap of the finale of Amish in the City. I thought I was the only person who didn't know when the show was to air. Had Tivo set on it's regular day & time. Boy was I ever upset. Emailed UPN-did I get any response-NO!! Thanks again. Pam
This was a very good show. UPN was supposed to replay the finale tonite at 7pm central and instead I am seeing America's Next Top Model with Tyra Banks. Who cares? I am very disappointed that Amish was not on so I went to read what happened on the finale on your site. Thanks for helping people like me who missed the finale get clued in.
Evan: My family loves this show, but we missed the last episode! We never saw any commercials for it! They skipped two weeks, and then even ran it on a differrent night than usual.
Thanks to your good website, I now know what happened with everyone on the show, but iI feel that it was promoted VERY poorly, and my family got cheated out of the last episode (the one that we most wanted to see). Take care, John
I missed the finale, as I am reading your website review and realize that many others have too. Is there a possibility of a rerun of the last episode? I really enjoyed all the situations and stories and I wanted so much to see what Mose decided. I'm glad at least that you included some of their comments on your web page. thanks....
Found your recap, and am thankful. I had no power and no cable due to hurricanes in FL for the finale. I too have been looking for it to rerun, but so far do not see it. Thanks for your recap, tho Id still love to see it. Did you tape it by any chance? Are you sending out copies? Id be happy to send a tape and whatever funds to cover your time and effort if this is a possibility. I am not really into most reality shows, but this one I found really interesting and well done. Let me know, if you can get me a copy..Thanks again for your recap and page...Diane Orlando, FL
thanks evan, at least now i know what happened. hopefully some day i'll see it. janice in California
why did upn change the day of the week they aired the final episode of amish in the city? it is very frustrating to watch for 9 weeks only to not see the final show to see what everyone decided about their future. will the final episode be aired again? and when?
I have watched every episode of Amish in the city. They always show an encore or repeat on the finale they didn't. I am upset I missed the finale and they did not repeat the finale so I could get to see the ending. Valerie
That is just a sampling of some of the e-mails that I received. I have found UPN's support of the show on their website, minimal at best. Maybe they could look at the Survivor or Big Brother website for comparison and see how in the 21st century a show's website should work. And as I said in my recap, without the fans and thinking of them first, you have nothing. Many fans will be less likely to tune in next time you offer a new show if you drop the ball and upset them in their first experience with your network. For me, this is actually the first time UPN has ever offered a show that I was even minimally interested in. It's all about the viewers UPN. Re-air the finale of Amish in the City, and please do it on the night and time people expect. Give us advanced notice, so that if we are out in the real world we can set our recorders. And finally, let us at RealityTVCalendar interview some of the show's house guests, so our readers can find out more about the people with whom they invested nine weeks of their lives.
One more final recommendation. I have already commented on this in my previous reviews. When casting, please do not follow the over used formula of including one gay, one black, one Bostonian/New Yorker.
Special thanks to all of our readers for their loyalty and their comments. We love you.

UPDATE
UPN has no comment but the show's Executive Producer, John Kroll, did write Evan to thank him for supporting the show. That thanks goes out to the shows fans as well.
Although the UPN site still does not say anything about repeats we know that some local UPN affiliates are carrying the show Saturday night. Check you listings.
