I was right. I had a feeling that since there didn't seem to be a great deal of drama happening inside the house the frequency of field trips would increase. This week surely proved that to be true. We were treated to "city kids and Amish kids visit every kooky LA establishment". I think not only would Amish kids find it odd, but so would about 99% of the rest of non-LA living normal people.
The first such field trip was to a Hare Krishna temple. Mose had a lot of questions for robed cult members, but decided it wouldn't be a good deal to join such a group. Good call Mose.
Back at the house some of the city kids felt that Kevan was getting a little mean, but I think the reality probably has something to do with them all being in a house for a month and being rather bored with each other.
And when Reese decided to start a game of "Truth or Dare" Kevan decided to sit out. But Nick and Ariel were "dared" to kiss. They obliged. They then carried the game over into the bedroom and out on to the balcony, engaging in a few more cuddles and kisses. I don't quite see them being a pair, but there probably isn't much else to do in the house. The best part of the whole cuddling episode was when Mose asked Nick the next morning if they had found an "ORGANIC" way to do it.
Que the next field trip. Venice Beach. Ah, yet another bastion of the normally challenged. Mose decides Venice Beach is not such a great place. Another good call. But most of the other kids found it interesting. Several got fake tattoos. We find out that Ariel works as a waitress at a Vegan restaurant (big surprise) and wants the kids to eat at such a place. Mmmm, yummy rose petals and grass. Randy thinks that the food is better suited for barnyard animals. Ariel's flower power mom and sister show up as well.
Ruth decides that the Amish girls should cook a real Amish dinner for the rest of the group. So they set to work in the kitchen for a couple of hours. Jonas and Mose help out for awhile, but remind us that Amish men never help out in the kitchen. Everyone enjoys the home cooked meal, except for Ariel of course who balks at everything except the salad.
Later that night Kevan and Reese had a discussion before bedtime. Reese presumed to tell Kevan that he was confused about his sexuality. That ticked off Kevan who told Reese the only reason he said stupid stuff like that was because Reese was attracted to Kevan and wished he was gay. Which is true, based on things that Reese had said the first week in the house. Kevan was irritated with Reese's statements and made it clear to Reese that he didn't approve of homosexuality. Reese then said he couldn't ever listen to Kevan again. Apparently only those people who agree with Reese are worthy of being heard. Sounds pretty much like Ariel's philosophy. Maybe the two of them should get together. They probably have the most in common.
The next field trip was to another LA staple, a spa. At the spa they took mud baths and body lotion baths. Everyone except Nick, who wasn't down with that stuff, and Meagan, who was protecting a fresh tattoo. It was kind of like a scene from the "Lord of the Flies," seeing them all covered in mud.
The next trip was to a yoga center. It must have been the "New Age" episode. Mose thought that the leader of the yoga session was hot. Bad call Mose. So sheesh what's next, I am thinking, a palm reader?
Bingo. Next trip was to some fortune telling establishment, where some of the kids had crystals and rocks placed on their body while some lady waved her hands over them. Then she proceeded to give them a "reading." Of course this "reading" included the usual crap about, "You're in the process of making a big decision" and other completely non-prophetic garbage that applied to everyone. I am always amazed at how people always act as if it was so specific, when it isn't at all.
Later, back at the house the city kids, not including Kevan, were out on the patio ripping on Kevan, badmouthing him about everything. Unknown to them, Kevan and several Amish kids are on the balcony above listening in. They all can't believe how mean and back-stabbing those kids are. Kevan decides he can't be friends with them anymore, saying, "With friends like that, who needs enemies."
Ruth and Jonas discuss again their decision about whether or not to return to the Amish life. Neither has yet decided. In the meantime, it looks as if Nick and Ariel may have decided to heat things up a little, even though Ariel prefers things raw.
