Amish In The City: Episode 5
The Outdoorsy Episode

Last week the house guests toured the new age sites of LA. This week found
them exploring the great outdoors and arguing about laundry.
When the house guests are not being distracted by field trips, they tend to
just sit around the house bored. With one exception. Mose keeps himself
busy by building small wooden toys for the other folks. At least he is
constructive with his time. Everyone else seems to suffer from a West Nile
case of cabin fever, especially Nick.
So it comes as no surprise they are all excited when they find out, via the
tube, they will be going on a rock climbing field trip. Ariel decided to
stay home however and do yoga or talk to the sharks or something. Perhaps
she thinks rocks are alive and don't appreciate people climbing on them.
Tensions between Reese and Kevan from last week are still quite heated and
it is slightly ironic that they are paired together for the climbing. Do you
see the producers working? Besides the fact that Miriam shows some fear of
heights, the climbing goes off without too many hitches.
The next field trip turns out to be an overnighter. The group is
helicoptered to Catalina Island off the coast of LA. Mose white knuckles it
most of the way. The kids set up tents on the beach and attempt to fish for
dinner. When a fish is finally brought in, Ariel decides that she must
comfort the doomed aquatic creature. She pets and caresses it prior to its
death. Nick remarks at how stupid these behaviors are, but I don't think it
will keep him from caressing her later. And in fact it doesn't. Nick and
Ariel wind up in a tent together kissing, while being spied upon by several
other kids.
The next morning the group has a challenge to compete for a dinner at a
restaurant on the island. The city boys and Amish girls versus the city
girls and Amish boys. While in boats they come across a pod of dolphins and
are taken with their playful behavior. Ariel is glad they aren't on the menu
for the evening. The Amish boys end up doing all of the work, but their team
looses. The city boys and Amish girls then are able to enjoy lobster and
steak at the restaurant, while the other group is left cooking out and
arguing about who has to do what.
A fun experience for all was being able to parasail. Even though several of
the kids are afraid of heights; everyone seemed to have a good time.
Such was not the case back at the house. Mose went to bed without showering.
Meagan removed Jonas' clothes from the dryer before they were done, and an
argument ensued. The city kids attacking the Amish kids (plus Kevan). Randy
finally stood up for himself and yelled back, but the city kids take the
award for being overly dramatic and rude. Sometimes I just have the urge to
reach through my TV set and slap them. The queen of drama is Reese and his
constant posturing and arm flailing. The Amish kids have had about enough of
it all and Mose declares he is near the breaking point.
We will see next week if anything is resolved or if tensions only get worse.
I wonder also what food group Ariel will befriend next.
