Amish In The City: Episode 7
The Boyfriend In The Bathroom

The first field trip has the group attending a Gospel church, which in case you don't know usually means a predominantly black church. Ruth remarks that she doesn't know any Amish black people. Randy found the painting of a black Jesus a little surprising. The sermon was about fathers, and Mose was touched by it because his father died when he was 12.
Later, Miriam and Reese are talking and Miriam says that she has never known a gay person before because there aren't any gay Amish people. Reese tells her he would like to take the whole group to the gay pride parade and show them, "What L.A. is all about." That is what L.A. is all about? Miriam, although saying she likes Reese doesn't believe in homosexuality.
As if on queue, the group is told they will be attending the gay pride parade in L.A. It probably would be better named, "The freak and shirtless parade." Nick remarks that it was "pretty gay." Ruth says she believes homosexuality is wrong as well.
The next trip is to a Beverly Hills salon for makeovers. While some of the girls were getting done, the Amish boys went for a stroll down Rodeo Drive, or RO-dee-o drive as Mose pronounced it. All of the kids get fairly dramatic makeovers. Meagan tells Ruth she looks like a "diva." When asked by Ruth what that means, Meagan responds, "hot bitch." Jonas is told by one of the stylists that he has, "kind of Leonardo DiCaprio thing going on." Nick thinks that Ariel's makeover makes her look "hot." Kevan thinks that Ruth's makeover was the most dramatic. Later everyone agrees with that assessment.
After the makeovers, the group takes a limo to the premiere of "The Notebook." They walk the red carpet. Kevan notices that no one watching is thinking, "I wonder if any of those people are Amish," which shows it is all about the right clothes and haircut. Mose really likes the movie, as do the others.
After the movie the whole group eats at a fancy restaurant. Meagan mentions how she misses her boyfriend. Huh? This is the first time that she has mentioned a boyfriend in the house. Hasn't it been like two months now? It didn't seem like she had a boyfriend early on when she was flirting with Kevan.
After dinner, Miriam and Ruth discuss the Amish life. Miriam thinks she probably can't return. Then they laugh and discuss the boys in the house. It appears none of them catch their fancy.
Kevan believes that Mose is the most likely of all the Amish to go back. Mose likes learning about the world, but knows he is just a simple country boy at heart.
Meanwhile, Reese calls his mom and finds out that his grandma has passed away. We all hope that this isn't another Johnny Fairplay (from Survivor) incident. It appears not to be and he leaves for a day to go home.
The next trip for the group is to a blues club. Nick is excited about this trip since he is a guitar player. He is able to get up on stage and jam with a guy for awhile. Next, Mose gets up to sing with them. Kevan and the rest of the gang get a good laugh out of Mose's song stylings.
Back at the house, Reese returns. Thanks for showing us two thirds of your underwear Reese. Again, some of us are trying to eat while watching the show. Before long, another visitor arrives at the house. Can you guess who? Meagan's "boyfriend." How convenient. I hear the producers whispering to her, "You might want to mention your boyfriend because we are going to be flying him in to see you today." Reese wonders who this "dork" is. Nino, or Neeno, or Nena, or Kino, or something or other is his name. I think Reese may have gotten one right for a change.
The next field trip is to a comedy club. Meagan and "boyfriend" decide to stay back at the house. Hmmm, I wonder why? Meagan says so they can "talk." They end up in the bathroom together. I gather because there are no cameras in there. Thank goodness for small miracles. At the comedy club, the comedian on stage does a great gay impersonation. Mose and others remark how funny and accurate it is. See how played and stereotypical those behaviors are Reese? Get a new act. Even comedians are doing your shtick.
The next field trip is to a Jewish synagogue. Reese says he really liked the Rabbi and what he had to say. That probably means he didn't ask him about what Leviticus 20:13 teaches.
The final field trip was to a skydiving center. An indoor skydiving center. They put each of the kids into this vertical wind tunnel that simulates skydiving. It looks like it would be a blast-literally. Whitney crashes into the walls quite a few times. I guess it was good that it was a simulation and not the real thing.
As the episode concludes, the group gets a tube mail that tells them they will all be going to Amish country. Jonas thinks it will be interesting to see how the city kids handle it when the tables are turned. I am guessing Ariel will have issues with the cows from outer space. I wonder whose boyfriend will show up next?
