The Real World / Road Rules Challenge:
Battle of the Sexes: Episode 11 Recap
Slap And Spell
December 28, 2004
It amazes me that Tonya really thinks that the way to make it to the final three is by drinking, dancing with all the boys, and passing out in parking lots. How is this woman still here? I think Coral is asking the same thing as she helps her into the cab to take her home. Of course Tonya still sees herself as a fierce competitor and feels she deserves to be there. Sure you do Tonya!
This week the teams will compete in the challenge "Cast a Spell". Johnny however cannot tell them the rules until after they pick the leaders. He does tell them they will have to use their brain to win. The girls are a bit worried. They sent home their smartest player last week. The two teams separate and try to pick leaders. Shane, Theo, and Dan. The women are trying to decide who might do the best job. Tina thinks both Coral and Ruthie would do a good job. Both agree to be leaders so that leaves one space open. I was shocked when Tonya stepped up and said she would also be a leader.
Now that the leaders have been picked, Johnny tells everyone what they will be doing. The leaders will need to pick letters for their team. Each team member will then have a letter spray painted on his or her chest. Teams will then make up words with these letters to receive points. The more letters in your word, the more points you receive. There is one catch. From this point on no one can speak until Johnny tells them they can. If they do they get a twenty-point penalty.
The teams separate and Steven begins to make noises trying to express to his group what he would like to do. Theo and Shane try to get him to be quiet so they don't get a penalty. When Johnny tells them they may speak, Theo says something to Steven. He gets a little defensive and when Shane tries to get his attention by grabbing his hand, he hits Shane in the head.
Johnny calls them all back over and reminds them that there is a no hitting clause in the contracts they signed and because Steven hit Shane he has to leave immediately. Shane is stunned. He tries to explain to Johnny that it was a misunderstanding but the rules are the rules. Shane begins to cry; he feels responsible and tries to get Johnny to understand. Coral reminds him that Johnny isn't the one who is making Steven leave. Steven leaves without a scene.
Back at the house, Steven packs his stuff up. He takes full responsibility for what happened. He does not blame Shane. He even writes the guys a note and apologizes to Shane. Back at the game, the guys must regroup. They have to continue with only six guys, which means they can't make any seven-letter words. The girls are sad to see Steven go but are ecstatic that this will give them a leg up on the guys.
For their six letter word the men pick "Master." The girls on the other hand pick "Candles." Have these people never watched "Wheel of Fortune?" Most words have the letter S,T,R,N,L, and e as the vowel. They have no T and no R. I would have gone with a word like Napster or Stamper. Both teams begin making their words.
The girl's team is on fire. They are making words left and right. The boys are having a little more trouble. They have duplicated a few words and their board is nowhere near full when Johnny calls time. Somehow the boys still win. I think it is all in the word they chose. You can make so many more words with a T and an R than you can with a C and a D.
Since Steven has already left, the men will not have to let someone go tonight. The ladies must let Coral, Ruthie, or Tonya go. Tonya has the crazy notion that it is between her and Ruthie. Ruthie says the same thing but I think she is really just saying it to be nice. Tonya is going home. Tina is voting today and she can't stand her, Tonya doesn't stand a chance.
On Elimination hill, Tonya is let go. She is a little surprised, but she would be. Thank goodness Theo has seen the light and says he does not think their little tryst will go any further. He chalks it up to a summer romance. I say it was a momentary loss of his senses. Thank goodness it is all over and Tonya is gone.
Next week someone is finally going to give it to Coral. Oh how I have waited for this day. Eric has had enough and his mighty jump rope is telling him to tell her like it is. I for one can't wait.
