The Real World / Road Rules Challenge:
Battle of the Sexes: Episode 13 Recap
The Sixty Thousand Dollar Mistake
January 11, 2005
Sometimes the person who should go home is not always the one that does. How else can you explain Arissa still being in this game? She has not contributed much and she keeps flying under the radar. I have a feeling that her friendship with Coral has something to do with it but that is just a feeling I have.
This week the men are feeling unsure about how they are going to vote the next person off. Out of the five left almost everyone is even. It looks as though right now both Eric and Brad are the low men on the totem pole. Eric however has an ace in his pocket called Mark. Besides Theo, Mark is probably the best on the team. He is strong and he just happens to be one of Eric's best friends.
Let's not beat around the bush here, Eric is getting old. He was on the original Real World and is getting up in years. By no means am I saying he is over the hill, but he is competing against people who were in elementary school when he was first on television.
Eric should be the next to go but for some reason I don't think he will be the one going home.
Over at the girl's house, two other friends discuss the state of the game. Sophia and Ruthie have become close during this game. They discuss how great it would be if they could both make it to the finals. Since any discussion of this sort usually spells disaster for one of the people it looks like it will be one of these two going home this time.
The next day the teams head for the next mission. This time teams will have to raise a car off the ground by pulling chains to lift the car into the air. They must keep the car even so that it does not fall off. To make it more difficult, before the teams can lift the car, they must pack an entire set of luggage into the car. All of the luggage must fit correctly and cannot be damaged. The first team to complete the mission will win exercise equipment.
Since the groups are so small now, there will only be two team leaders instead of three. The teams separate to pick leaders. As soon as the guys are alone Mark informs the group that Eric and Dan should be the leaders. He says that both of them are excellent packers. Brad sensing something is not right, objects. He wants to know what makes them better packers. Mark says he has seen Eric pack and he is really great at it and Dan packed trucks for a living.
Brad objects again saying that he packed trucks for UPS and he might be good. He doesn't put up enough of a fight so the leaders are Eric and Dan. Over at the ladies side, Tina decides to step up. The logical thing would be for Arissa to step up. She refuses to and so Ruthie has to. Arissa is not stupid. She knows she should not be there but she refuses to step up and take responsibly for her lackluster performance.
I could not believe that Coral thought Arissa was a better choice than Ruthie. The way she bullied Ruthie and not Arissa is so wrong. Coral so needs to go and thank goodness she is not going to be on the next Challenge, which started filming this week. So that leaves us with Eric and Dan and Ruthie and Tina as the leaders.
As usual the boys have their stuff together and are ready to begin. The girls are still trying to decide whether to do it Ruthie's way or Tina's way. They opt for Ruthie's way. Everyone begins and the only way the girls have a prayer is for them to get their car packed first. That of course doesn't happen and the men win yet again.
It is time to decide who is going home. Sophia tries her hardest to make sure that Ruthie stays but Coral has it in her head that Ruthie and Sophia must be broken up and Ruthie has to go home. Sophia tries to convince Arissa but it is not happening. The guys meanwhile are debating between Theo and Brad.
On Elimination Hill Brad and Ruthie get the boot. Sophia is really upset. Everyone of course is still wondering how in the world Arissa is still there. Brad is upset that he didn't make more of a fuss when Eric stood up to be a leader. He called it his sixty thousand dollar mistake.
Theo is upset that Eric is still there. He thinks Brad should still be here and Eric should have gone home. It looks like next week could be interesting. Hopefully Sophia can hold off Coral and her girls and make it to the end. Out of the people left I would like the final six to be Theo, Mark, Dan, Sophia, Tina, and unfortunately Coral. I guess we will find out next week.
