Well, we finally made it. Not only is this the "Christmas Special", but it is also the season finale of Brat Camp. I am pretty confident my recap will be worthy of this special event.
Day 42, Two Days Until Christmas
Not surprising there are no happy campers at base camp. The kids are reflecting. Frank doesn't feel he has a family. Jada thinks she deserves to be back home (still lying to herself). Derek actually feels the opposite of Jada. As they decorate a live tree with satin balls (from "Hell") they choose names for a Secret Santa gift exchange; whereby each kid is to make a handcrafted gift for the person they select. Glacier still feels that the group needs to show more respect and trust in one another and he has just the ticket.
"Belay-Backs" Are A Bitch
To test their confidence in themselves and one another the group is being asked to tackle the High Ropes Course. Each camper is suppose to climb a very tall tree and walk across a single tight rope while another camper acts as a belay (security roper) that keeps them from falling down, SPLAT, as Ann the field instructor tells them.
Isaiah volunteers to be the first belayer. Jada is first to "walk the walk". As she is in mid stride, Flying Eagle starts talking to her about how long she needs to stay. Personally, I think he was trying to get her to fall, SPLAT. Well his secret scheme fails and Jada makes it across saying how it is suppose to be some sort of "metaphor about hardships or some other SageWalk craziness".
Isaiah is next and he thinks this whole thing is crazy. After completing the course, he realizes that this is a metaphor for taking one step at a time and he asks for forgiveness and that he has changed. Shawn is next. In order to make up for his slacker past, he challenges himself by doing the course blindfolded (now that's pushing the limit dude!). He makes it with little difficulty. Frank, who grew up without a father, has a hard time trusting people. He completes the course with hopefully a newfound trust in family and friends.
Lauren who also needs to work on trusting people thinks twice about Jada being her belayer. Derek with a gleeful look in his eye heckles her all the way. Lauren actually falls off the tight rope but Jada does her job and she does not go SPLAT (sorry Derek). Speaking of Derek, he is up next. He is reluctant but starts to climb up the tree with some encouragement from the others. Halfway up he wants to quit. Fire Bear reminds him of the regrets he had for not repelling and he continues. At the top of the tree his fear of heights and whatever else get the best of him and he quits the course. In order to make him feel like he has accomplished something, Derek is instructed to climb atop a platform and is asked to fall backwards putting all his faith in the catchers below. He takes the plunge and the campers catch him. Just like the kid who gets off the roller coaster for the first time he wants to do it again and again.
Christmas Eve
I couldn't help myself. This is the Christmas Special Recap So I wrote this little poem…
'TwasThe Night Before Christmas (SageWalk Style)
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Brat Camp,
No one was stirring. What, Derek not "amped"?
Their heads were all hung, down in despair,
Their hopes were all dashes, "This Sucks"!!! They declared;
The campers were nestled, in their makeshift beds,
Visions of Heather, Lexie, Nick in their heads;
We counselors tired of hearing their crap,
Had just settled down for a well-deserved nap;
When out on the range there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bag to see what's the matter;
I put on my pants as I flew like a flash,
Tore open the teepee and threw up the sash;
The moon on the desert and the new fallen snow,
Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below;
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a big, burly man with glasses and beard;
To the kids, he said rather sternly, I'm recapper Mike,
"Now get off your Asses, it's time for MY hike";
In less than five minutes, all of them came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now Shawn, Now Lauren and Now let's go Jada!
On Frankie, on Derek and you too, Isaiah!
Once and for all, I'll straighten you out,
Keep your mouths shut; I don't care if you pout...
Hiking for miles, He said, "Your backpacks can drop,
And as for your bullshit, Right NOW, It will stop";
He took Frank and Isaiah, both by the collar,
Walking away, all you heard was him holler;
"You two should be happy. You have loving mothers,
Now men of the house, you must love one another";
"And just for good measure", he said on the spot,
"You still want to fight? I'll give you first shot";
They both thought it over and after awhile,
They said, "We're all men" and shook hands with a smile;
Next two were Lauren and the non-stopping crier,
You know the one, the "compulsive liar!"
Staring at Jada, he just shook his head,
You're a slice of America, from pure, snow white bread;
Given the world...Jada, still you want more?
Lying about drugging and acting just like a whore;
Your parents love you, but spoil you rotten,
To the point where the LOVE, is all but forgotten;
To Lauren he said, "You're a tough nut to crack;
Your father is gone, and you can't bring him back";
They say that the Lord, works in mysterious ways,
Don't blame them both, for your drug- induced daze;
Your heart is a canyon, and wide it does span,
If you cherish each moment, it won't feel so Grand;
Next he took Shawn, not trying to be rude,
But he calmly asked, "What's up with you dude?''
You're a deserving kid, everybody's agreed,
Stop feeling so lonely, and STOP smoking weed;
Last he took Derek, gently holding his hand,
"Though smaller than Frank, you're a much bigger man";
If medicine helps, swallow your pride and the pill,
You're sure to go places, if that is YOUR will;
The talks were completed and each camper drained,
But the funny thing was that no one complained;
The hike back to Base Camp seemed shorter by far,
They settled back down under sky filled with stars;
And to all us counselors, he said, "I admit,
You're much better than I, just for not 'losing it'";
Mike said his good-byes and his thanks for the show,
"It was really a pleasure, watching each of you grow;
And we heard him exclaim, taking away all the strife,
I am proud of you all, and to ALL a good life!!!!
Christmas Day Is Here
All arise to a beautiful Christmas morning. Jada, rubbing her eyes can't believe it's finally here. The group is surprised to find stockings filled with trinkets hanging on the tree. Shawn is especially shocked since we find out he is Jewish and has never had a Christmas stocking. We are not shown any Christmas caroling. So I took the liberty to write one for those of you at home to sing along…
The Twelve Days Of Brat Camp
(Sung to the tune of The 12 Days of Christmas)
On the first day of Brat Camp,
Producers gave to me
Ten rules that the "campers" must heed.
On the second day of Brat Camp,
Producers gave to me
Two freaking stones,
And ten rules that the "campers" must heed.
On the third day of Brat Camp,
Producers gave to me
Three Breakthroughs,
Two freaking stones,
And ten rules that the "campers" must heed.
