Last week it was $10,000 and the master bedroom. This week it was the master bathrooms that would be remodeled. Ten Gs for each team, plus the amount of money they had left over from the previous week. That would seem to be enough money to redecorate a bathroom. But after seeing what they teams did last week with the money, I wasn't so sure this week.
They would have 144 hours to complete this task. As they did previously, both the Upper complex and the Lower complex had to choose a Property Manager. Kim was chosen for the Lower complex again. She practically volunteered, which seemed to be a bad move based on the fact the Property Manager doesn't have a vote in the eviction. Jayna was chosen for the Upper complex.
Right from the start Jayna and Sam were at each other throats. The yuppie snob versus the red neck. Jayna states that she believes Sam is "psychotic." After having seen two episodes, I am inclined to agree with her. Sam gets defensive and argues about absolutely everything with every one.
Meanwhile in the Lower complex, during his sleep, Barney comes up with a scheme to get rid of Carl and Kim. Barney and Rose and Dave and Ana will sabotage their own bathroom, so that the Lower complex looses and they can vote out Carl and Kim.
Kim and Barney have a pretty heated exchange. Kim detests the cheap looking vanity they have purchased. Apartment four doesn't care and goes into slow motion so as not to finish in time. Eventually before the final night, Kim and Carl and Brad and Lew, who have been working away on their own room, realize that the other couple are in fact sabotaging and trying to loose on purpose. So they stay up all night doing the rest of the work for them, trying to finish off the bathroom. Both Brad and Lew tell Barney and Rose that they are terrible people.
It seems like if couples are rewarded for not doing a good job, then isn't the whole purpose of this show kind of pointless? It is like Richard Hatch all over again. Do we really want the least competent, most obnoxious, most deceitful, and laziest people to win? I hate it when the "game" is set up that way.
When the horn sounds and the teams have to put down their tools, there is a lot left undone in all the rooms. As the judges walk through they point most of it out. In room #1 they think the colors are too dark and the room is way too plain. In room #2 they like the bigger tub, but realize there is now no storage. In room #3, they like the design and the colors, but think the workmanship is just ok. And then they come to room #4. The tub/shower is not done at all, the sink is hooked up and it is basically a mess and not even close to being completed.
At the eviction ceremony Kim and Carl and Erik and Jayna are told they have been nominated for eviction. The results are read. The judges believe that room #3 has again added the most value to the complex. And as for the worst room? Was it #4? Amazingly, it was room #1. The judges felt that is was so plain and so cheap that before the unit could be sold it would have to be totally ripped out and redone from scratch. The master plan of Barney didn't work. Apparently the little fairies talking to him in his sleep hadn't brought with them the ultimate strategy. Carl and Kim have a reprise. But they are told they will now move to the Upper complex and join that team. Erik and Jayna are sent packing. Who will Sam argue with now?
