The Complex: Mailibu - Episode 4
The Strong Don't Survive

Despite the fact that Brad and Lew won the first three competitions, their fellow teammates hate them and want them gone because they are the stronger team. I just hate shows where the strong don't survive (See this week's Survivor and Apprentice).
This week's task is to complete the living room. Each apartment is given $14,000 to complete the task. Any money left over from previous weeks is also available to them. Brad and Lew also have an additional $2000 for being last week's winners. The property managers are selected, and Ana is chosen for the Lower complex and Steve for the Upper.
Crusty old Barney and Rose get into a shouting match with each other.
Can you imagine spending even two minutes with these leathery old coots? Rose complains to Barney, "You're not my fodder!" Barney responds, "Doos whacha want." You couldn't fill a thimble with the combined intellectual capacity on display.
Meanwhile, the teams discuss their design plans and begin stripping down the apartments. Ana complains about how Rose never contributes much of anything. How can she say that? Rose contributes so much: stupidity, loud mouth, laziness, bad design sense, etc…
It's always so obvious in reality TV when a show sponsor is featured. I wonder if they think we don't realize it. Hmmm, everything is from Sears. That must be a good place to shop for house wares.
Nicole and Sam attempt to buy furniture for both apartments in Upper complex, but most of it ends up in Sam's place. Doesn't that sound like a bad spin-off pilot for Cheers?
The host arrives at the complex and gathers everyone together to give them the 24 hour warning. But that isn't all. There is a twist. Now the teams will have to switch rooms and finish the other team's apartment. They are all not happy with this.
The girls in the lower complex do not like the couch that the guys picked out. But now it is the last minute scramble and there is no time for a change.
As the judges arrive, each team puts the finishing touches on their rooms. Apartment #1 seems to have clean lines and nice floors. Steve really tries to pitch the attention to detail. The judges think that having the couch face the TV in apartment #2 detracts from the fact that there is an ocean view. For apartment #3, one of the judges remarks that the furniture is facing the door and that this room would be okay for a prison reception room, but not for Malibu. But wait, he hasn't seen what Martha Stewart has done with her cell yet. The judges think the couch in apartment #4 is terrible as well and call the whole room a bad dream.
At the lumber yard, Brad and Lew are nominated for eviction for Lower complex. For the Upper complex, Steve draws shovels to see which couple will be nominated for Upper complex. It will be Steve and Nicole.
The best room this week goes to apartment #1. Finally a win for the Upper complex. The worst room goes to the bad dream room-#4. Despite their early victories, Brad and Lew take the walk of shame.
Now there are only four couples left. Each one is given an apartment and the host tells them that there are no more teams. It is everyone for themselves. Each couple now must complete their apartment in three weeks. The winning couple will take the spoils.
