Something's Gotta Give

Recap by Teri Campbell
August 9, 2005
Cruising for a Bruising:
We begin with Chuck trying to clock in and realizing that he is a minute late for work. We see everyone coming to work and greeting each other, with Shonna letting us know that she is not in a good mood. Chuck foreshadows the episode by letting John know he is in the mood for a fist fight (remember, Chuck used to be a boxer). Flash to Rick who can't seem to punch in the correct entry code to get inside his own mortuary! Once inside Rick passes Chuck and a receives a, "Good Morning" but Rick continues to his office without a word to Chuck. Chuck lets us know how much he doesn't like Rick, and Rick turns to the camera and let's us know that Chuck only dislikes him because he was once engaged to Chuck's oldest daughter, Melissa. Rick then notes that all of them, issues aside, are there for the families that come to them and that's the bottom line.
Long Blissful Life:
We now see David making arrangements for a 94 year old man who just passed away. He had been married 57 years and said it was 57 years of bliss. David ponders the thought of him and his wife being buried together physically, but says that is up to her. If not, he hopes they have a long happy life, too.

My Way or the Highway:
Rick starts to call everyone in to fix their timecard because he can't figure out what they mean by the way they write on their timecards. This ticks John off, but he reluctantly shows Rick the corrections. Chuck has messed up on his time card and Rick says he is mentally incapable of taking care of a time card.

Boiling Point:
Chuck was shorted a few hours on his paycheck and Emily lets us know that he feels wronged and at this point, he can't think logically. Switch to Chuck asking Rick if he is going to get his money. Rick tells him to keep his anger pointed at himself since he is the one that can't complete a time card correctly. Then Rick tells him "F U" and Chuck simply loses his temper and swears back at Rick and adds that he is a punk. He chases Rick to the office where Rick tries to slam the door in Chucks face and Chuck uses his hand as a door stop. Chuck then makes a move towards Rick but Shonna jumps in front of him and tells him to get out! Chuck tries to reach for Rick over her shoulders, John pulls Chuck back and Emily dives in and screams, "Dad! Stop it!!" Shonna is screaming at her dad telling him what a fool he is for getting so riled up over a paycheck error. She keeps screaming for him to get out and go home while telling him what a psycho he is.

A House Divided:
Shonna and Rick comfort each other about what an idiot Chuck is, while John and Chuck talk about how ridiculous Rick is. Emily is hugging Chuck while Shonna is screaming what a butt kisser she is. Everyone is throwing out explicatives and Chuck finally gets escorted to his car by Emily and takes off. Shonna declares that she is tired of all the crap that's been going on since Rick broke up with Melissa. She is also tired of babysitting. She grabs her stuff and declares that she is going to quit. David meekly smiles and says, "OK." David then summarizes that this is what happens when the boss gets involved with the employees. Wow, ya think?

It All Comes Out in the Wash:
We get to revisit the fight to see.....
