I Want To Be A Hilton: Episode 6
What Does It Mean To Be A Socialite?
Recap By Adria Valdes
July 28, 2005
On this week's episode of I Want To Be a Hilton, the competition gets heated up as there are only 7 players left in the game. With Latrica gone, Jakaay is the only player left representing the Madison team. But little do the participants know that teams won't matter this time, because this week's challenge would be every man for himself.
Because there were only 7 players left, they all moved into one penthouse suite at the Melrose Hotel. The competitors get settled and meanwhile, JW and Jules spend some alone time on the balcony. It has been clear to all of us that the two have had a bit of chemistry between one another from the start, hopefully it won't affect their performance this far into the game. Mission day started off like any other, with an invitation from Ms. Hilton. This week the players were cordially invited to the esteemed Palm restaurant for lunch with Ms. Kathy Hilton. They all got ready in "casual yet sophisticated" attire and headed downstairs where their limo awaited.
To everyone's surprise, the players were greeted by a swarm of photographers snapping countless photos of them as they exited the hotel and entered their limo. Reality began to set in. The game was real, and in just a couple of weeks one of these lucky 7 would be deemed a "socialite" and have to deal with the press on a day to day basis. Once they arrived at The Palm, they were greeted by Ms. Hilton and spoke about the photographers. With the help of Dave Allocca, celebrity photographer and Jeffrey Slonim, entertainment writer, our seven hopefuls learn what and what not to do while in the eye of the paparazzi. They even saw some candid photos of themselves in some not so flattering poses. Ms. Hilton explained the importance of looking your best and being on your best behavior when in the public eye. Tension grew thick when Jules asked the million dollar question, how did the Hilton family kept their cool amongst all the gossip and photos of party girl Paris? However, Kathy remained open and honest throughout the conversation. Changing the topic of conversation, Ms Hilton explained that the contestants would be walking a red carpet event later that night, and within minutes they were sent to meet with public relations expert, Susan Magrino. Susan gave some tips on how to answer questions from the press as well as how to handle paparazzi. Throughout the meeting, Jules continued to ask questions and remained extremely talkative. This seemed to bother the rest of the players.
Back at the Melrose hotel JW and Jules had a confrontation because of JW's flirtatious behavior. But the feelings had to be put aside so that everyone could get ready for the red carpet event. Private limos came to pick up our participants and take them to the Manhattan Club for the long awaited "red carpet event". But, to their surprise, the seven contestants were in something a little different. They arrived at the Manhattan Club, not for a red carpet event but for a press conference. Donny Doich, celebrity expert and member of the CNBC team, hosted the conference. As if there wasn't enough pressure yet, there came another surprise. Through the double doors entered the 7 other Hilton wanna-bes who were already eliminated to help ask questions throughout the conference. This was going to be a long night. Jakaay was first in the hot seat. Yvette asked why Jakaay was jealous of her. Jules was next. She was asked about her relations with JW as well as her talkativeness. Jaret was asked about his country boy stereotype. So far, the contestants were doing a fairly good job. Then along came Niki. She was at a loss for words on the question, "What does it mean to be a socialite?". Vanessa was up and answered questions about how the game has affected each players. She answered very openly and honestly. JW was asked the most difficult question of the night, "who do you think does not deserve to win this competition?" Surprisingly, he kept his composure and answered in an unbiased manner. Finally, Brenden took the stand. He was asked if he stole ideas from other players. He also faced some other pretty nasty questions such as "are you as phony as you seem?"
The night was over. But this time no one was exempt from elimination. They all met back at the Residence with Ms. Hilton to face the music. The stakes were higher tonight because not one but three people would be leaving the competition. J.W was disappointed in Niki's performance. Jakaay agreed with J.W. But Niki felt Jakaay performed the poorest. Brenden expressed feeling hurt by being called a phony. It was time to move forward so the contestants were asked to exit so that Ms. Hilton could compose her list of who would be staying for the next week. This time the list had only four names. The lucky four that would be staying were …Jaret, Jakaay, Vanessa and J.W. Weak Niki, phony Brenden and talkative Jules would be packing their bags tonight. The remaining contestants entered the dining room and JW went downstairs to bid Jules a final farewell.
Next week, the final four will endure their final challenge. And finally, the most anticipated moment yet. Ms. Hilton will announce the winner. It will be the most intense episode yet.
