I Want To Be A Hilton: Episode 7
Status Quo Vs. The Lunes
Recap By Adria Valdes
August 4, 2005
As the competition gets closer and closer to the end, the final four contestants had to face their biggest challenge yet this week. The mission was intense and required that they incorporate all the skills they have practiced up to this point into their work this week. After last week and the deliberation that ended up sending three of the participants home, the final four (Jakaay, J.W, Jaret and Vanessa) knew that this competition was no joke. They were each going to have to put their best foot forward in order to make it through this week.
The morning of the mission began like any other, but this time instead of an invitation, Ms. Kathy Hilton herself came to the Melrose penthouse to explain the events of the day. This mission would once again require teams. The four were split into pairs, J.W and Jakaay and Vanessa and Jaret.
They each had to throw an event at a local NYC club called QUO. With the help of a contact list of club promoters, radio stations, models and celebrities, each team had to make a theme for their party and promote it. The team who had the most people show up at their event would win a pair of brand new Cartier watches, as well as skip the chance of getting sent home. To make the challenge a little more difficult, they had only 10 hours to plan the party. Let the games begin…
The first task was to come up with a catchy name for the party, as well as plan how they were going to promote it. J.W and Jakaay but their heads together, but it seems like creativity was not J.W's forte. He was having a lot of trouble coming up with even a single idea. Finally, Jakaay got the idea to name the party Status at Quo. This seemed like a clever idea, so the team was off to a good start. Meanwhile, Jaret and Vanessa were trying to come up with some ideas of her own. Vanessa became bossy as usual and didn't allow Jaret to give much input. Finally, the two…well Vanessa seemed to decide on naming the party Lunes, since the event would take place on a Monday ( Lunes is the Spanish word for Monday).
Jaret was given the job of going to a local hip hop station to promote Lunes at Quo. Surprisingly, Vanessa didn't take charge of this assignment. Jaret didn't do a superb job at the radio station. He was extremely nervous, but being his first time on the air, it seemed understandable. Jakaay also spoke at the same radio station and seemed to have done a better job. She was very relaxed and seemed to appeal to the station's staff.
In the meantime, J.W and Vanessa met with club promoters as well as New York party girl Ms. Nunez. They both seemed to do a good job at offering them all a good time, but personally I thought J.W's personality came off more appealing that Vanessa's. Jaret and Jakaay also met with club promoters. Again, Jaret didn't perform as strongly as Vanessa or any of the other three for that matter. He was shaky and unsure of answers, and failed to know what exactly his event was offering. Jakaay seemed to come off positively to the club promoters, being friendly and promising them VIP access.
At this point, it was difficult to see who was in the lead. Although Jaret hadn't been performing strongly, he and Vanessa seemed to be getting many promises from guests saying that they would most likely attend their event. At the same time, J.W and Jakaay were getting the same promises too. It wasn't until Ms. Party Girl Nunez called J.W and assured him that she would bring 60 people to his event that we could assume J.W and Jakaay had this event in the bag.
At nightfall, there was only one thing left for the teams to do…get ready for their parties and hope things went their way. All the calls had been made and hands had been shaken, all the teams could do at this point was see what happens. From the moment at they arrived at QUO, it seemed person and after person was walking through the doors of the Lunes side. But J.W and Jakaay remained confident. J.W remained at the door to check in guests while Jakaay went inside to keep things running. Still, more and more people continued to stray to the Lunes party. Suddenly, J.W saw Ms. Nunez, he was relieved. But to his shock, she went (with her 60 guests) over to the Lunes party and J.W lost his composure. He became angry, cursed and was overall in an unpleasant mood. However, just as they thought it was over for them, one of the club promoters arrived at Status with a very large group of guests. This just might have been enough to put J.W and Jakaay back in the game.
At midnight, after attending both events, Ms. Hilton announced the winners… Vanessa and Jaret had had more people attend their event, and so were rewarded with beautiful Cartier watches. Jakaay and J.W lost did not lose by much but were reasonably upset. They would have to attend deliberation with Ms. Hilton. At the deliberation, Kathy Hilton discussed what went wrong with Status at Quo. J.W's attitude was definitely one of them. Ms. Hilton also pointed out that Jakaay failed to meet the needs of the guests by never brining them they bottles that she had promised.
Finally, Ms. Hilton came to her decision and decided to keep Jakkay. J.W failed to keep composure under a stressful situation and this seems to be necessary for a socialite. Next week, Ms. Hilton puts our remaining three contestants through their final test before she picks a winner. This will be the season finale and it's sure to have a few surprises. Tune in for the final episode and the final recap next week.
