Hi everyone! I am so excited to be recapping all my favorite MTV shows. This is my first article and I could not be happier that it is for The Inferno. For those of you not familiar with the MTV challenges, I will give you some background.
When MTV needs a filler show, they will have a challenge. They get former Real World and Road Rulers together and have them compete for cash and prizes. This time they gave us The Inferno. Our Real World players are: Syrus (Boston), David (Seattle), Julie (New Orleans), Coral (Back to New York), Mike (Back to New York), Trishelle (Las Vegas), CT (Paris), Ace (Paris), Mallory (Paris), and Leah (Paris). For Road Rules, our players are: Timmy (Season 2), Holly (Latin America), Veronica (Semester at Sea), Katie (The Quest), Kendal (Campus Crawl), Darrell (Campus Crawl), Shane (Campus Crawl), Christena (South Pacific), Jeremy (South Pacific), and Abe (South Pacific).
Now that we know the teams lets talk shop. How does The Inferno work? There are 16 different challenges. Each challenge is worth $10,000. The first challenge is for the money. After the challenge each group must go to their lounge and nominate two of their own to go into the Inferno. The two names are then presented to the opposing team and they must decide who will ultimately go into The Inferno. There is then another challenge in which the winning team will win another $10,000 and the best performer on each team will win the Aztec Lifesaver. If you are set to go into the Inferno and you win the Lifesaver, you can take yourself out and put in the teammate of your choice. If you are not nominated to go, then you can sacrifice yourself to save whoever is going. When the final two are chosen, they go into the Inferno to do some unusual challenge. The winner stays to play another day and the loser goes home penniless. After all eight of the Inferno's there will be a final challenge for all of the remaining players worth $150,000. Of course the challenges are nice but we watch for the drama on these types of shows. How can you have a MTV show without a little drama? This time around most of the drama revolves around Katie and Veronica and Julie and Coral. With Julie already eliminated, that just leaves us with Katie to provide the drama.
We left off last week with both teams throwing the mission so that the two Inferno nominees (David and Timmy) could get the Lifesaver and send in the weakest links (Leah and Katie). Apparently someone forgot to give that memo to Kendal and darned if she didn't win it and make her team furious. Feeling pressure from her team, Kendal sacrifices herself to save Timmy and go up against Leah. While in the Inferno, Mike (who Kendal has been fooling around with) starts yelling at her about lying to him. As last week ended we had no idea who won nor why Mike was so mad.
We open this week with the Inferno still going strong and a little crazy. Kendall and Leah have to transport bricks from one side to the other by walking over a plank. Mike is still ranting about Kendal lying and how she is disgusting. He says some really hurtful things. Darrell tells us that Mike is saying these things because he is drunk. Mike begins to tire of berating Kendal so he moves on to Veronica. Veronica in turn insults Katie. Katie is furious. She has not opened her mouth so Christena steps in to calm Katie down. Meanwhile back at the action CT informs Leah, "Let's be honest, you need to step it up. The free ride is over." Leah is furious and the name calling begins. The best insult of the evening had to go to Katie when she called Veronica a "J-Lo wannabe." The craziness comes to a head when for some unknown reason, David jumps in between Kendal and Leah naked. The Inferno ends thank goodness and Kendal emerges victorious. She however doesn't feel much like celebrating. She is very hurt. Leah is very hurt also. She feels that Darrell should have stepped in and said something to CT. Darrell tells her he has a short temper with men. He tells her she is a grown woman and should fight her own battles. We see Mike finally sober up and realize what an idiot he has been. He apologizes to Kendal and she gives him a second chance. She tells him "I want to kiss you and stab you at the same time." Sounds like a perfect foundation to build a lasting relationship.
Next up we find out that since they are coming up on the last Inferno they will have to pick the candidates before the challenge. Dave informs them that this is a girls Inferno so since Coral is the only Real World girl left she has to go. The Road Rulers go to their lounge and Katie and Veronica both nominate themselves. They let Real World know and Coral sees it as an easy choice. Pick Katie. The guys however disagree. They remind her that they made a pact to never vote Katie to the Inferno. Coral is upset so she calls for a vote. Coral and Syrus vote for Katie while CT and David vote Veronica. Going against his best friend, Mike gives his vote to Veronica and so we have a Coral/Veronica show down. Coral is very upset with Mike. She interrupts a talk with Kendal to confront him. Mike says "I think Coral is scared to go into the Inferno." Well, who wouldn't be? If you loose you don't get any money and Coral already lost The Gauntlet.
It is finally time for the challenge. It's called "Window Washing." In this challenge each contestant will be lowered down a building by a window washing rig. Along the way they must read and remember six numbers. At the bottom there are combination locks and they must use the six numbers to unlock them. If you forget the numbers you DQ. The players with the best time on each team will win the Aztec Lifesaver. Abe and David are up first. David has some trouble with his rig and he ends up with a time of 5:33. Next up Timmy (2:40) and Mike (2:22). Mike does not want to win because he doesn't want to have to save Coral. They are followed by Christena (2:02) and Syrus (who DQ's) Katie (1:56) and CT (2:12), Veronica (1:30) and Coral (1:34), Kendal (14:14), Darrell (1:40), and Holly (2:16). Katie thinks she has the Lifesaver won, but in the end Veronica and Coral win and Veronica announces Katie is going to the Inferno. Coral is unsure though. She won't send Syrus but the other three are vulnerable. Of course as the preview shows, she picks David.
Well, that is it for tonight. Next week the much hyped Veronica/Katie match up happens. Come back for all the juicy details! Will it be David? Can Katie win again? Who will win it all? See you next week!
