Rock Star: INXS - Episode 11
High Risk Females...and Brandon
Recap by Gayl Killough
August 4, 2005
Tonight is performance night.
Mig is up first singing Queen's "We Will Rock You". Mig has sung this
song many times during his role for the Queen musical. Brian May of
Queen has mentioned that Mig and Ty were not allowed to do Queens songs,
but someone had a change of heart, because here is Mig singing a Queen
Song.
Dave and INXS look very pleased. Dave says it was like being at a real
rock concert. With apologies to J.D., they are glad to hear a Queen song
performed the way it is supposed to be. I agree. I knew it would be
great going in, and I am sure Brian May of Queen is pleased as well. It
is a little disappointing because I expected it to be great, it was
great, but I did not have the opportunity to be surprised.
Deanna is second with Melissa Etheridge's "I'm the Only One". Dave and
INXS were glad to see the real Deanna back. They loved that she worked
the crowd and crossed the crowd to come over and sing directly in their
faces. Told her that she was invited any time that she wanted to come.
I really love when Deanna does her own thing, but she does not fit with
INXS for me. I realize that INXS wants to go in a new direction, but
that person stills need to be able to overlap with the old INXS. Deanna
is better off when she is not trying to be INXS.
Marty is third with Creed's "Arms Wide Open". At some point not shown on
camera, Dave encouraged Marty to sing a ballad this week. INXS were
really pleased by how much Marty has blossomed. Commented that Marty has
gotten something out of every clinic and they can't wait to see what he
does next. Dave likes how he slowed down the crazy conductor movements
and thought that was cool.
I really love Marty's voice, even the rasp in his voice. The pace of the
song allowed him to show some pretty tones to his voice. However what I
love about Marty's voice seems to be what other people don't like. Marty
is the total package for me and I can't wait to see what he tries next.
During my earliest review, I picked Marty as one to watch in this
competition and I think Marty is worth watching.
Ty is fourth with Foo Fighter's "Everlong". Dave and INXS were impressed
that he took on a song that he had not heard before and make the song
his own. They said nice things, but it lacked the enthusiasm of comments
that they made for others that night.
I don't know if that song was just not meant for Ty or if he just needed
more time with the song, but that was not the Ty that I love.
Jessica is fifth with Violent Femme's "Blister in the Sun". Hostess
Brooke makes a big deal of Jessica not wanting to go home. Dave and INXS
commented that she looked like she was enjoying herself and that she did
great working the crowd.
I am glad that Jessica got vocal training and she could do very well from
the opportunity that this show is providing her, but she still has a
long way to go.
Brandon is sixth and sings Tonic's "If You Could See". Dave and INXS says
it was great that the vocal clinic helped and they appreciated that he
experimented with stage techniques.
I am so glad that the contestants are writing blogs for the official site
and that I read his blog. It totally changed my opinion on Brandon and I
don't think the editing on the Monday episode was fair to Brandon. He
did appreciate the vocal training and is trying to incorporate the
advice. It is just that it going to take time and I think it hard for
him to fight his comfort zone. Before reading the blog, I was ready to
send Brandon home, now I am not so sure.
Jordis is seventh and sings David.....
