Rock Star: INXS - Episode 13
Misunderstood.....Not Difficult
Recap by Gayl Killough
August 10, 2005
The behind the scenes show that used to air on Monday on CBS has been
moved to VHI on Sunday (8 p.m. ET/PT)
It is a beautiful sunny day at the mansion. Brandon says that being in
the bottom three changes his viewpoint completely and that he feels out
of his element. Jessica is nodding in agreement with Brandon's
statements. Ty breaks down and feels that being the only black
contestant that he has to represent more than himself. So with a bad
performance, he feels that he has more responsibility. Ty says that he
does not want to do anything that he is responsible for to cause him to
lose his dream.
Mig mentions in a voice-over that he feels the pressure of being the only
Australian in this competition when INXS is an Australian band.
There is a surprise party for Jordis's birthday. There is a huge cake
shaped like a guitar. Jordis makes a wish to see her boyfriend and
turns around to find him there. Jordis is shocked and is just glowing to
see him.
This week's clinic was not in the ballroom, but instead in the Hollywood
Roosevelt Hotel. The clinic is about working the press which will be
important for the lead singer. They are three different reporters who
will interview the contestants individually. The contestants are told
the stories will reach the public.
The first reporter asks the contestant what were their first memories of
INXS. Jessica says she was in the third grade when she heard INXS and
the comment seems to surprise the reporter a little. I want to mention
here that I have read comments on message boards from several people who
think Jessica is too young to have appreciated INXS. For me personally,
I was a huge blues fan before I was even in third grade and the music
from my early childhood is the music that I feel the strongest
connection to now. I understood the music better when I got older and my
connection to blues is still growing and developing even now, but my
early attraction to the blues laid the foundation for my current musical
taste. Jessica could have been a fan of INXS as child and then have
continued to grow and appreciate the music as she got older.
The first reporter also asks the contestants their favorite albums. Ty
replies that "Kick" is his favorite album, but then the reporter asks
for his favorite album besides that one. Ty pauses and then answers that
he does know the songs by album specifically, but emphasizes that he is
more interested in the future of INXS. I have already read comments on
message boards that people think this means that Ty is not a true fan of
INXS, but I have to admit that I don't remember songs by album names
either. I do well to remember the song titles, but what I do remember is
the songs themselves. To be honest, I am more likely to remember the
artwork for an album and to find it that way instead of the album title.
My visual and sound memories are much stronger than my memory to
remember words. Just trying to cut Ty some slack.
The second reporter asks the contestants if they would skip the funeral
of a parent or close relative for a gig. Only J.D. answers that his
family comes first. Suzie wants to know how big of a gig? Brandon does
know how to answer the question because he never thought about it.
The third reporter asks who is the most difficult person in the house.....
