Who Wants To Marry My Dad?
Episode Two
Recap By Teri Sue
June 22, 2004
Here we are back at the Oakland's again. Dad Marty, the daughters, the women and a mole.
But first, we get to see where last week left off with Dad about to make his first choice for the nightly recap. He goes with Suzanne. Of course the daughters watch secretly. Dad and Suzanne do the usual cozy, sweet talk flirting.
Next evening, dum de dum dum. While fixing din din, the women learn about the mole. One of the women is the sister-in-law of the dad and aunt to the daughters.
When the women are told there is a mole amongst them, what do they do? What all red blooded women would do. They try to figure how who it is. Non stop. Some even start making physical comparisons between the daughters and a few of the women when they learn it is an aunt.
If they want to make comparisons, they might want to look at the resemblance between the daughters and the lie detector guy. I just noticed the resemblance tonight myself. Take a close look yourself during the next episode. Wonder if he is a close relative.
The mole is revealed. This was not a long drawn out affair. A quick, down and dirty deal. The mole turns out to be Lola. Auntie Lola has been taking notes. Uh oh. Auntie Lola doesn't mince her words. That notebook of hers is filled with enough dirt to do a landfill right. Auntie Lola calls several of the women to the head of the dinner table to sit in the hot seat while she lowers the boom in front of everyone.
First up is Nicole. Auntie Lola says that Nicole revealed she refused to marry someone because he was allergic to cats. Eyebrows go up. Oooos and Ahhhhhs are uttered. Hey, the woman is honest. If it's a choice between cat or man, the cat wins.
Next is Melanie. Melanie doesn't like to date older men. The word "old" is repeatedly vibrated in the room. Melanie denies this as we, the viewing audience, watch clips of Melanie emphasizing no older men, no older men.
I love these times. You know these women will eventually be watching this themselves, and see how blatantly they lied. It's gotta be embarrassing. You would think.
After Melanie it's Sharon's turn to be confronted with the fact that she said she wants to have children. Note: the daughters are grown ups here and the dad is apparently not looking to have anymore biological kids. Sharon denies what Auntie Lola has divulged and, of course, we see clips of Sharon definitely saying she wants children of her own.
Sarah is the next one called to the hot seat. Auntie Lola informs our girl Sarah to get comfy. Not good. We hear that Sarah has a potty mouth. I'm thinking, oh geez, come up with something better than that to bring the girl front and center. Then, the incoming fire. Auntie Lola lets everyone know that Sarah says her career is most important and men are a waste of time. Just what good ole dad wants to hear I'm sure.
At this point, I am tired of Auntie Lola and want to give her the elimination boot. Finally, Aunt Lola gives the "thumbs up" to all the rest of the women. Whew, at least maybe Auntie Lola will sit her butt down and shut up.
The forever present, trusted Fax Machine goes off. The daughters have 15 minutes to decide on an elimination of one of the women.
The daughters send dad to his room, the women to their room and Aunt Lola is sent to spend the next 15 minutes with the women, several of whom she had just dissed. Aunt Lola is not a happy camper. The daughters deliberate and call everyone back downstairs.
Sarah is eliminated and sent on her way. She and Auntie Lola leave the Okland house at the same time.
I must note here that the Soundtrack to this series is pretty damn good. For real. The songs chosen are cool. During the cheesy parts, you can close your eyes and still enjoy the episode.
The next day Dad gets to have some alone time with the women. Yeah right. He sends the daughters to the movies and tells them to catch a double feature. The daughters leave and guess what? They go into a van parked nearby to watch daddyo do his do with the ladies.
Dad and the Women change into swim suits and head to the pool. Dad gets some alone time with each remaining woman. The Montage begins. Dad kissy kissy with the ladies. More with some. Less with others. Daughters do their usual "yuck" when they see Dad making out with the women. Didn't they watch the first 'Who Wants To Marry My Dad'? Come on.
It's fax machine time again. The daughters have to choose two women to go to the laundry room and fetch towels, but of course it is to meet the lie detector dude. They choose Machel and Sharon.
The editing makes it appear that Sharon was chosen because during her alone time with Dad she interjected the words "you love me" right smack into sentences during conversation with Dad. Dad had a really puzzled look when it happened. Sharon explains to the camera away from Dad that she was trying to send subliminal messages to Dad. I was rolling on the floor laughing my ass off.
Machel was chosen because she said she wasn't going to kiss on their first alone time and does lean in for a kiss. Big deal in my opinion. No telling what the other women did.
With both women still dressed in swim suits Machel goes first. She is told to sit straight, feet on ground, arms held straight up to apply straps. Machel hesitates on raising her arms, checking underneath and saying she wants to make sure she had shaved. Wow. Woulda thought she would have thought of that earlier in the night prior to donning bathing suit and being in hot tub with Dad. Plus, I bet she thought that part (the shaving) would be edited out. Ah well.. so goes RTV.
Both Machel and Sharon fail the lie detector tests miserably. Big decision for the daughters. They want to eliminate both women and say so in front of everyone.
The daughters eliminate Machel. Guess they figure keep the lessor of two evils in their mind's eye since the daughters were obviously totally disgusted with the results of both women's test results.
I say bravo to Machel. She made an unforgettable exit. She spoke her mind eloquently about her disagreement with the lie detector test results. (We have to realize that those lie detector tests are not 100% accurate). Machel seemed to genuinely regret leaving and it appears she was beginning to have feelings for Dad who stands at the door and watches her leave.
Back inside the Okland house, the mood is subdued and Dad says considering the circumstances, he'd just as soon forego a nightcap with any of the women. Everyone retreats to their rooms.
Preview of Next Week: Dad seems upset with a decision his daughters make. Really upset. He says "My own daughters went against me".
That's next week. Till then....
