Who Wants To Marry My Dad? Finale
Gut Wrenching Fairytale
Recap By Teri Sue
August 3, 2004
That may sound like an oxymoron. In this case, it truly isn't. It was "gut wrenching" and it was a "fairytale". I have not seen any of the "romantic" RTVs done in this absolute splendid mixture. It was flawless. AND... REAL RTV. If any of this was fake, then everyone in this finale' should be given their own TV shows because they would be that good of actor/actresses. My conclusion is that it was not fake at all. True emotions were presented. Just "true" period. This is what RTV is all about. It has been my honor to do the recaps for 'Who Wants To Marry My Dad'!
This paragraph I write now will contain three sentences. The one just written, this one and the most important one to follow. Kudos to Nash Entertainment and Satin Productions!! and NBC for being the network to carry this series.
Wow! I almost don't have words to describe the finale'. For me that is rare indeed. My "little birdie" at Satin Productions informed me that this would be a zinger. That was an understatement. He must have been being modest. It starts out with a bang and ends in splendor. All I can do is give my spin on the finale'. So, let's begin here at the beginning of the end. With the end of the commentary hopefully being the beginning of a lifetime for the Oklands and the chosen lady.
The Confrontation
Suzanne (sorry, but, she has been one of my least favorites all season. Guess that's been obvious huh) starts with acting friendly to Stacy when they are alone. Suzanne says she is shaking. Stacy walks over and takes Suzanne's hands in hers to comfort Suzanne. What does Suzanne do in return? She lights into Stacy. Harshly. Stacy (who has all along been one of the two of my favs with Melanie...guess that's been obvious too) keeps her cool. Suzanne seems to think she is the only one who is truly in love with Dad Marty. Suzanne's lets it be known that Marilyn would have been a better choice to make the final two than Stacy. Keep in mind that Stacy has not, during this series, to my knowledge, taken any pot shots at anyone. Suzanne has in her own subtle way. Stacy has been straight up all the way. I bet even the editing team wished they had something they could have used on Stacy just to spice it up. But, Stacy has been consistent. It always appeared she was there to find real love, not for her 15 minutes of fame.
Back to the confrontation. While Stacy still has Suzanne's hands in hers, Suzanne starts the attack. At this first strike, Stacy asks Suzanne if this is going to get ugly. Suzanne says Yes. Stacy pulls her hands away and makes a great observation. Why now Suzanne. And, even brings up the fact that Suzanne has no room to judge. Suzanne has yet to face "the lie detector guy". Stacy has been there and done well indeed. At this point, I want Suzanne strapped to the chair and in the hot seat.
Downstairs during dinner, the daughters notice the undertone with Suzanne and Stacy. Stacy makes the reference that Suzanne is wary of Stacy. Suzanne turns on the sweetness (gag gag) and assures the daughters she is looking after their and their dad's best interests. Gimme a break Suzanne. Stacy gives an excellent comeback, in an eloquent and firm manner. She lets the family know, in no uncertain terms, she loves them. Suzanne is not pleased.
The Fax
The two women are told to go to the door. At the door is a little girl who has come up the path which is laid out with flower petals. On a ring pillow, she has the engagement ring Suzanne had picked out. Stacy is gracious and really excited for Suzanne. Suzanne, I say take a clue from Stacy. The women close the door. Repeat doorbell. The women return to find another little girl bearing Stacy's ring pick. The women close the door. Another doorbell ring. This time it is Guess Who??? The Lie Detector Dude with the lie detector machine on a pillow. Priceless!
The women chat and prepare for the lie detector test. This will be Suzanne's first time. Stacy has faced it before. So, let's get to it. I loved it! Suzanne is asked if she would expect Dad Marty to foot her expensive shopping habits. Suzanne says no. Thumbs down. Now, we know. Little miss goodie two shoes fails. It does come back that she is in love with Marty. Stacy takes her turn. She fails on the question if she likes Suzanne. No big deal since it was determined in Suzanne's test that she doesn't like Stacy. Even Steven on that score. It comes back that she too is in love with Marty. These two very different women have that in common. They both have fallen in love with Dad Marty.
