Tuesday night I walked from the parking lot to the Bellsouth Acuff Theatre with allot on my mind. There was only one more show after this one, and it would all be over. My Tuesday night ritual was coming to an end and it was actually kind of sad. No word yet on if the network has renewed Nashville Star for a fourth season, but I'm really hoping that they do. A crew member had told me last week that the show was "doing really well", so we'll see. Also on my mind, next week one of the final four would have their lives changed forever with the winning of a major recording contract on Universal South Records in Nashville. I had just counted up the final votes from readers who had sent in their votes to my email address like I asked in my article from last week, and I was curious to see how tonight would pan out. If the winner of my poll was eliminated, that would be interesting. If not, my poll may be more accurate than I thought. More on that later
Bret Michaels kicked off the show with the Poison hit "Nothing But A Good Time" and was joined onstage by the remaining finalists: Jason Meadows, Jody Evans, Jayron Weaver and Erica Jo. Fireworks literally flew as the pyrotechnics in the theatre lit up the stage. As we went to commercial break, the Nashville Star crew even opened up the emergency doors at "stage left" and "stage right" to try to clear out some of the smoke.
Once again, Sara Evans filled in for LeAnn Rimes who is still recovering from a damaged blood vessel in her vocal cords. Word is that she'll be back next week for the finale.
This week, each of the four finalists got to perform their songs after a clip was shown of their hometown concert that was held the previous Thursday to help raise money for the American Red Cross. The interesting thing about this season's final four is that they're each so different. This should be a nail-biting finale as the season will conclude next week with a 90-minute special which will crown the newest "Nashville Star."
At the end of this week's show, each contestant that would move on was called out by host Sara Evans. Jason...Erica Jo...then...Jody Evans. Jayron Weaver became the seventh contestant eliminated from season 3 of USA Network's Nashville Star.
From where I was sitting, Jayron appeared to be a little surprised and maybe even a little upset that he was out of the competition. Always showcasing a great voice, the guy has improved tremendously in his stage presence and interaction with the audience and judges as well, even hilariously asking judge Anastasia Brown where HER underwear was after a clip was shown of his hometown concert and a couple of pairs of underwear were thrown his way, one of which landed on the neck of his guitar and stayed draped there as Jayron light-heartedly bantered with the crowd. This was obviously a joke by the fans who were responding to previous comments by Anastasia, who had stated that she could not see Jayron "dodging beer bottles and women's underwear" if he won the competition, and saw him more as a gospel singer.
The improvement, however, was not enough and the self-confessed "underdog" of the competition was out. Most notably, Jody Evans has maintained quite a bit of momentum and has surprisingly managed to make it into the coveted top three. Jason Meadows has been a favorite from the start, and it is not surprising he's still there. He rightfully deserves it. Erica Jo has been hanging in as well, and by the grace of Tamika Tyler's unexpected exit, she made the top three.
I was able to speak with Jayron after the show, and he shared with me his thoughts on the competition and his plans for the future.
"I came into this and nobody knew who I was," Jayron told me, and then, regarding the "underwear comment" he made to Anastasia, added, "but if I was to go out, I was glad I went out using the line I did tonight!"
"In some ways I felt like they [the judges] were picking on me, so to go out like this, I couldn't ask for anything better," he laughed.
Jayron said that he hasn't really looked at his past performances on previous episodes this season, preferring to leave the past in the past.
