In Search Of The Partridge Family
Nika's Predictions

by Kanika Wade
October 6, 2004

Who will become the new Partridge Family? As the show heads towards the finals and the series finale October 17th, I have had a lot of fun watching the great talent that has taken apart of the show. For the 32 finalists who have participated, I commend each of them for sharing their hearts, lives, and most of all, their talent with the world. For many, I know that this isn't the end but only the beginning and I believe that it is only a matter of time before we hear from several of them in the future.

The judges have had their say and the power is in our hands to recast the new version of this popular 70's sitcom. Although we will learn next week about the final two Shirleys (I'm still going to give my prediction, though), here are my thoughts as we go into the face offs next week.
Keith
David vs. Leland

As we all know, Keith was the family heartthrob. He literally had the girls falling at his feet! David and Leland carry their unique strengths; however I see the modern day Keith being a heartthrob with a hint of 'rocker rebel' in him. David is adorable and while he carries strong vocals and acting ability, Leland, on the other hand just has the "X" factor. With a strong look, amazing vocals, and firm acting ability, Leland is the total package. I can definitely see bigger opportunities post-show for Leland-looks like his Butter band mates will have to find a new "singer dude"

My "Keith" Pick: Leland
Final Prediction: Leland

Laurie
Alexis vs. Emily

In the original sitcom, Laurie was a mixture of sweetness coupled with strong political views. As former finalist Rachel Kimsey put it "she wouldn't be an undecided voter this year!" (Amen.) The modern day Laurie should carry this along with her own sense of style and sex appeal (all while keeping it PG of course. Come on folks, this is a family sitcom!). While Alexis strongly resembles Laurie, she comes across as extremely cutesy which I think will stifle the role if she is cast. Emily, on the other hand has captured Laurie brilliantly (particulary evident in her song selection and acting) and her unique energy (mixed with her cute quirks) would provide the "twist" that new Laurie needs.

My "Laurie" Pick: Emily
Final Prediction: Emily

Danny
Keaton vs. Spencer

If you have already ready read this week's recap, you already know how I feel about Spencer. Yes, he's adorable but he should have gone home instead of Alex (the boy has some pipes on him!!). I can see the new Danny as having the mischief mixed a new hustle (I can see this Danny hustling on QVC *lol*) and this combination is something that Keaton would deliver if cast. He already has the look (with Mohawk!) and his mischievous energy (which he showed in the singing round singing "Burning down the House") is pure, but charming. While Spencer is equally charming, he looks like that he would more fit the role of Chris instead of Danny. It will be crucial for Keaton fans to show their support because with Spencer's fan base, it could tip the scales in his favor.

My "Danny" Pick: Keaton
Final Prediction: Spencer

Shirley
TBD
Although we will not officially know the finalists until next week, I will go on record to pick Suzanne and Krissy for the head-to-head. While Mary Kay delivered a strong performance, Suzanne and Krissy both offer "something extra" and I feel that this will give them the edge into the finals. Although I feel that both would be outstanding Shirleys, Krissy has the edge for two reasons. First, she comes off extremely natural and authentic. Krissy appeared to be extremely comfortable in her element and it showed in her performances. Second, the "mother/son" connection. When the original sitcom was cast, Shirley Jones and David Cassidy were mother and son (actually half, Shirley married David's father). With hardcore supporters determined to see history repeated (through Leland and Krissy), it is possible that this will tip the scales in Krissy's favor however as a fan, I hope that everyone will evaluate Krissy and her fellow finalist (if I am wrong on my prediction) equally and vote on talent, not relationship.

My "Shirley" Pick: Krissy
Final Prediction: Krissy (Based on Talent, NOT because she is Leland's mother!)

How do your picks stack up with mine? Do you agree or do you beg to differ? I would love to hear from you. Send me an e-mail at kanikaawade@aol.com and let me know what you think!
