Real World San Diego:
The End Is Here
Recap By Cari C.
June 30, 2004
Yes, it is that time again. Real World San Diego is coming to an end. It is time to say their good-byes, shed some tears, oh and take care of that pesky battery charge. Before we get into to this week though, let's look back at last week's show.
As some of you may know, I was on vacation last week. Sadly, there was no MTV on my television. So much for that hotel, next time I will only pick a hotel where MTV is offered. I really don't have a problem.
Last week the roomies are back at work again. They have all decided to get it together and try hard to earn their bonus from work. I should say all of them but Charlie. Charlie's girlfriend is coming to town and he wants time off. Really, he just got there and he already wants time off.
Back at the house they are celebrating Cam's 20th birthday. They give her a cake with trick candles. After trying continually to blow them out she gives up and proceeds to eat the cake with her fingers and her mouth. She tries to throw the cake in Brad's face but Brad runs. He runs right into Charlie and Laura, who have just got back from the airport. What a welcome! He tries to get Cam to swear she won't throw the cake in his face and she does. Of course, she throws it anyway. So much for the pinkie swear.
The next morning they head to work, they want their bonus so they are going to give it their all. Charlie drops them off and heads back to Laura. He has told the others Troy okayed the time off. Not true, Troy tells him he never said anything so they all lose their bonus. The group is not happy. Later, they confront him and he swears he told Troy. He even calls Troy but nobody is buying the story.
Cam is ticked at Charlie. She goes on his bed and "accidentally" kicks his guitar and breaks it. She is not sorry about it either. She swears she is not going to tell him but when he gets home she does. He is not happy. He says she has done about $800 worth of damage. She tells him she will get it fixed. He tells her it can't be fixed. She refuses to buy him a new one. Laura tells him to get over it, he has ten more at home.
Monday Charlie has to go make up his day. Troy tells him he must scrape the name off the boat using only his fingernails and a heat gun. He does the job but he is not happy. The next day is the last day of work for the group. They are happy that the job is over. Even though they all hated the job, they learned a lot. To top off a good day, they all make their bonuses. The episode ends with group standing on the dock looking out over the bay.
One week before they move out, they begin talking about how they are going to miss each other. Brad is going to miss everyone. Cam thinks she has learned a lot from the others. Brad doesn't think he has but Jacquese thinks every one of them have learned something. Cam goes around the room and lets us know what each of the roommates has taught her. She says Robin has taught her if all else fails, hit.
This is a great lead in to Robin and her court appearance. Robin has to appear in court for the charges incurred when she hit that Marine. She is a bit scared. She thinks the charges were blown out of proportion and she doesn't think she should have been charged with battery.
At court, her lawyer tells her the judge has decided to review the tape and then they will let her know whether they will proceed or drop the charges. Robin is hoping they will either drop the charges or at least lower them. She will have to reappear in a few days.
That night Cam, Brad, and Robin decide to go out and hit the town. Cam reminds us she always has to use her fake ID every time she goes to out to the bars. She is always worried she will get caught. The trio gets to the front and Cam gives them her ID. The bouncer is checking out her card and you can tell she knows it's a fake. Brad grabs the card from the bouncer and yells "Run Cam, Run." Three bouncers take him down. Fearing Cam will be arrested; Robin grabs her and gets her out of there. Brad is left to tussle with the bouncers.
Robin and Cam get back home and they tell Randy and Charlie what went down. Cam is extremely upset. She thinks that Brad should start acting his age. Charlie and Robin try to calm her down. They tell her that Brad was only trying to protect her. She finally clams down and they set out to find Brad.
Back at the club, the bouncers tell Brad that what he has done is a felony. Grab by force or fear is robbery and it is a felony. Brad is a little worried. I really think they were blowing that a bit out of proportion. I guess they realize it too. They let him go. He is getting ready to get in a cab just as the others show up. They are so happy to see him. Brad tells him he talked his way out of trouble. Somehow, this does not surprise me.
One day before they move out, Robin is back in court. They show her lawyer in deep discussion with the Deputy District Attorney. He comes back to Robin and tells her they will drop the charges to Disturbing the Peace which will result in a fine but no jail time. She is relieved that the whole thing is finally over. She is still upset with the guy that started the whole thing. She thinks he was a big sissy. I think so too. He was probably just jealous and decided to get her in trouble. I will have to agree with Robin here.
Back home, the roomies are beginning to pack. Clothes are strung out all over the place, boxes are strewn around. Cam yells that Frankie is on the phone and Jacquese runs to talk to her. He misses her and is glad she called. He asks her if she regrets her decision and she of course says no. He hopes she is happy because she is his girl.
More arrangements are being made to get each member home. Brad's dad calls and tells him he can stay with them when he gets home. Brad is sad this is all ending, he wishes that he could take them all home. The group meets out on the patio for one last night.
The group looks so sad. You can tell that these people actually enjoy each other. Cam thinks they are all like brothers and sisters. Brad says he wants no sad thoughts tonight. He wants to pop the champagne and have one last great time. They do just that. They drink and dance and have a great last night.
The next morning Robin is the first up. She is the first person scheduled to leave. She has mixed emotions about the whole experience. She never thought she could grow so close to others the way she has. Mike shows up to pick her up and take her to the airport. She gathers the group for a big group hug. Cam says Robin is like the older sister who loves to party that she never had. She is truly going to miss her. Robin leaves. As she leaves, MTV ads a little blurb to let us know what is going on in her life now. Robin and Mike are still together but Mike is currently in Iraq serving his second tour.
Back at the house, Randy is getting ready to head out on the water cab. He says he is going to miss everyone but he is glad to be going home. Everyone says how much they will miss him. Randy leaves and we find out he is taking a five month tour of Europe. Randy was never one of my favorites and while I think Brad really will miss him, I can't say as much about the others. Could it be the whole rape incident with his friend? Who knows since the producers opted not to mention that at all.
Charlie is next to set out. Cam and Jamie are sad to see him go. That surprises me a bit, maybe Charlie decided not to make Cam pay for his guitar she broke. The girls say they are glad they got a chance to know him even if it was for a short time. In his closing shot, we find out that Charlie and Laura have broken up and he has rejoined his band.
With just four left, the remaining ones lay around on the bed reminiscing. It will soon be time for Jamie go. Jacquese takes her to the train. Jamie says she really loves Jacquese. She was always so comfortable around him and she is really going to miss him. Jamie heads out and I am happy to read that she is still in school and still trying to communicate with her parents. I didn't really understand that whole thing with her Mom, but I wish her lots of luck.
Back at the house, Jacquese is back from the train station and getting his stuff together. He says one thing he has learned is how to forgive and not hold grudges. He heads out and we learn he is still in school and is back to talking to his dad. I am really glad to hear that. Coming from someone who was in a similar situation to Jacquese, the best closure is to let his dad know exactly how he feels. I hope he finds the closure that he so desperately needs.
How ironic is it that the only two left in the house are Cam and Brad? I wonder if that was planned? Cam is the next to head out. The two hug, she tells Brad not to be an accountant if he doesn't want to be. She can't believe she made out with a northern boy, but you know she enjoyed it. As she makes her way to the airport we are shocked to discover that Cam has no idea what she will be doing next. This of course means, look for Cam to show up at the next challenge.
In the end there was Brad. After looking around, he puts on his helmet and jumps on his motorcycle. Our parting shot of the season is Brad riding off into the sunset. Back at home, he is starting his own business. It's a sports company but someone else will be doing the accounting. I was surprised that there was no mention of Andrea so I will assume that these two are over.
So there you have it. Another season bites the dust. Over all, this has been one of the better seasons. I enjoyed all of the roomies (okay almost all the roomies). Next up we have Real World Philadelphia. No word yet on a start date, but they are currently shooting. See you next time when seven new strangers are picked to live in a house and have their lives taped to find out what happens when they stop being polite and start getting real. See you then.
