Road Rules 13: Episodes 10
Don't Fall to Pieces
Recap By Cari C.
August 10, 2004
Last week I said that MTV might prove me wrong. They showed the previews for this week's show and they did not give away what was going to happen. I thought my complaints had finally been heard and MTV was going to stop telling us ahead of time what would happen the next week. Unfortunately those of you that stayed up and watched "The Assistant" know that MTV proved me right.
Not even 20 minutes after Road Rules ended, MTV showed a preview for this week's show. If you watched it, you know that this week another Road Ruler will bite the dust. Does MTV think this is smart? If I wasn't recapping this show for you guys, I would boycott the show in the hope that MTV would wise up.
I hate watching a show when I know what is going to happen.
It takes all the excitement out of the show. It is like watching Survivor and knowing which team is going to tribal council. I am all for spoilers. In fact, I am the spoiler queen. I always hunt out spoilers, but that is just me. I love the hunt. I love scouring the Internet for a good spoiler. For MTV to just hand it to me, it takes all the fun out of it for me. I want to be the one to chose if I read a spoiler or not. So knowing that they are going to lose this week, let's jump in.
We start out this week in the RV. The group wants to go out to eat and to a club. Nick would rather clean up first. The group really wants to head out so Nick tells them to go ahead. If he catches up with them that's fine but he is also fine if he doesn't. Can you feel the tension? Nick heads out to clean up and the group immediately starts in on him.
Derrick does not like him. He doesn't appreciate the little comments he always makes. Angela can't figure out why the group doesn't like Nick. She thinks he is a great guy. Patrick says that Nick does do good on the missions but that he is still walking a thin line and if there is another vote off, then he is gone. Is this a little foreshadowing? Yeah, these editors aren't that smart so I can tell you right now that Nick won't be voted off and everyone will make up in the end. Any bets that I am right?
Derrick continues his rant about how he doesn't like Nick. He quickly shuts up when Nick walks back in. Nick understands that some of the things he says come from him being the outsider. He feels ganged up on by the others and he has gotten defensive. The group has been a little rough on Nick. They have given him a hard time from day one. I can understand why he feels defensive. They quickly embraced Angela but they have given Nick nothing but grief and he is one of the better performers.
The group leaves to go to the club and the group continues to make Nick feel like the odd man out. They make him the designated driver again and leave him off to the side while they all drink and dance. I feel bad for Nick. These guys need to lighten up on him.
The next morning they get a clue that they need to drive to Buenos Aires. Since most of the group looks hung over, Nick has been designated the driver again. Nick tells us he is doing everything they ask of him in the hopes that it will somehow help him fit in. He admits that he doesn't know why he even bothers. I don't either.
The group arrives in Buenos Aires and they get their clue to the next mission. "If you want to win another key, don't fall to pieces." Ibis says that after the last mission the whole group is excited about going into this mission. They are sure they are going to win this mission too.
They arrive at he mission the next morning and are a bit worried when all they see is a big 18 wheeler and a big pillar thing. Their new mission mayors Gesila and Cecillia greet them. They tell them they will need lots of agility for their next mission. Angela is a bit worried about this mission. She is not used to this stuff and does not like the looks of what is about to go down.
The mayors tell them in this mission they will be paired off. Each pair will them be strapped into the harnesses. Each pair will then stand on top of the eight-foot pillars holding hands. A truck with a rope attached will drive by. The rope will also be attached to the pillar. As the truck passes, the rope will pull the pillar out from under the pair. The pair must land on the ground on their feet still holding hands. If any part of their body other than their feet land in the square they fail. If they land outside of the square they fail. If each team completes the mission they will get their next key.
Nick and Derrick both admit they are a bit scared. That is a huge fall. Ibis says that it will be hard, but this is a very winnable mission. The group decides that they should pair off according to weight. If not, a smaller person might not be able to keep a bigger person from hitting the ground. Ibis is not keen on this idea. She thinks they should be paired up boy/girl.
