Road Rules 13: Episode 2
Derrick Comes Around
Recap By Cari C.
June 15, 2004
Just as I was beginning to watch Road Rules, I got a phone call. I run to pick up the phone and come back into the room to see Danny swimming naked in the water. The group had decided to do a little swimming and I guess it posed the perfect opportunity for Danny to get naked. Derrick is not happy about the whole Danny situation and this is just making it worse. I can see this being the episode where Derrick will come to terms with his fear of homosexuals. Anybody want to bet me?
They get their next call about their mission. Their mission will be tomorrow morning at 9 am. In true Road Rule style, they decide to go to a club to drink and do some partying. Seeing how Derrick reacted to the alcohol the night before you would think they might have stayed in and played charades, but where is the excitement in that.
Derrick has decided to take it easy tonight. Of course that doesn't mean no drinking, just less drinking. Danny on the other hand goes wild. He learned nothing from the Derrick incident. We see him drinking and drinking. He is so drunk that he falls all over Kina and tries to kiss her.
The group is a little worried. As they are winding down their evening, Danny begins to get sick. He pukes all over the floor. The group helps Danny back to the RV. He looks really bad. Everyone is worried that Danny won't be able to make the mission tomorrow. They give him a bucket and Danny continues to puke.
Kina and Ibis are really concerned but Derrick finds the whole thing funny. Obviously he is forgetting last night's drunken rampage. He makes fun of Kina trying to take care of Danny. Furious, Kina and Ibis go outside. Kina believes that after the way Derrick behaved, he has no right to judge Danny. Of course Derrick feels the need to make comments about Danny being gay and that just infuriates Kina even more.
It seems like a lot of things infuriate her. Kina seems to always see the negative in things. She doesn't seem to be a very happy person. I hope her attitude improves soon. The whole angry girl thing is getting old, fast. She is quickly becoming my least favorite cast member.
Back to the show, it is now 6:32 in the morning and everyone is waking up. Danny looks awful. You can tell he is still drunk. Danny interviews, "I have never been this drunk before in my life." He starts puking again. Derrick tells him he needs to get it together. Everyone needs to give 100% at the missions. Derrick is mad that they could possibly lose because of Danny. Ibis is worried too. Danny can't stop puking and Patrick doesn't feel well either. Things are not looking good.
Ibis drives them to the mission and they come upon a huge waterfall. They meet up with Fabrizio and Anderea. Fabrizio tells them that they will be repelling down the waterfall. The waterfall is 210 feet high and stays between 45 and 46 degrees at all times. For this mission, there is a six-second rule. They will be separated into groups of two and they must repel down the wall synchronized. They must start at the top together, get to the middle together and then get to the bottom together. If they don't make it together within six seconds, they are disqualified and the team loses.
The teams are paired off; Patrick and Ibis, Jodi and Kina, and of course Derrick and Danny. Danny is very worried. He is still not feeling well. Derrick still doesn't care. He says Danny just needs to get it done. They are there to do missions so he just needs to suck it up.
Patrick and Ibis take off. Ibis is shocked how hard the water hits them in the face. They take off within the six seconds, hit the middle, and then reach the bottom with a second to spare. They work really well together. They seem to have this whole big brother/little sister vibe going.
Jodi and Kina take off to the top. Jodi lets us know again that she is afraid of heights. After they are hooked in and getting ready to go, Jodi slips and falls upside down. The coordinators ask her if she wants to come back up, but she is more psyched than ever to go down. She says if she can hang upside down and not freak out, she can do this. Kina and Jodi start down and complete the top. They make it to the middle and then reach the bottom within the six seconds. Jodi is so excited that she made it.
Derrick and Danny start up to the top. The two have been having a heart to heart and it seems Derrick is trying to take the time to get to know Danny. He asks Danny about his boyfriend and they talk about life at home. Danny says he thinks they are bonding. It is really nice of Derrick to take the time to talk to Danny. It seems to be making a difference. He is still nervous but for the first time Danny seems to think he can do it.
Danny and Derrick get hooked into to the repelling gear and right off Danny slips and falls like Jodi did. Luckily he is not thrown upside down. He quickly pops back up and with the help and reassurance from Derrick, they both make it to both the middle and bottom within the six seconds. Everyone has successfully completed the mission.
Fabrizio and Anderea come back and give them their well deserved next key. Patrick is excited, "Two missions down, 12 more awesome missions to go." The group gets in the RV and heads back to the campground.
Derrick and Danny decide to go out to lunch. They continue their conversation from the mission. They seem to be really getting along for the first time. Derrick really seems interested in what Danny is saying and Danny is glad that Derrick is making the effort. He says it doesn't matter that Danny is gay.
Derrick feels that he has disrespected everyone. He doesn't want people to think bad about him. Back at the RV he tells Jodi that he is not a bad person and he feels bad about some of the things he has said. He goes thru the RV and apologizes to everyone. Kina is being her normal self. Derrick is making the effort, the least she could do would be accept the apology and move on. Sadly, she feels the need to put in her two cents.
Next week it looks like my predication will come true. It looks as if Patrick and Jodi will kiss. I wonder what the girlfriend at home will have to say about that. Join me next week to hear Kina complain, Derrick insult, and of course some kissing.
