Road Rules 13: Episode 5
"EARMUFFS!"
Recap By Cari C.
July 6, 2004
It's Monday again, you know what that means? You guessed it, another new Road Rules episode. Will they lose again and have to vote someone off? They did remind us for the thousandth time that they lost the last mission before the opening credits rolled. Who knows, let's jump in and find out.
First let me say, I think it is so cute how they have X the dog in the credits. Reality TV pets never get the credit due to them. I mean we always hear about the contestants, but what happens to the pets. Big Brother always has pets. Do you ever hear about them? Finally a reality TV pet gets some credit. Go X.
As we get back to the show, we find the girls having lunch together. They are so disappointed in Danny.
They hate having to rub his back and tell him it is okay but it his fault. They can't believe that they ate all that food and took one for the team and he didn't. They are girls and he is a guy. There is no reason they should not have won. Kina says there is a ton of pressure on Danny to perform this week.
Flash to the next day, and the group is out sunning themselves at the beach. Danny begins to tell a story about some guy he thinks is hot. He tells the girls that the guy is a Playgirl model. As soon as he says Playgirl, Derrick yells "Earmuffs!" I am slightly confused until Danny reveals that Patrick and Derrick yell earmuffs whenever Danny begins to talk about his homosexual lifestyle. They want to be supportive of Danny but at the same time not have to hear about it.
Danny is upset by this. He never says it when they all talk about their heterosexual lifestyle. MTV shows us clips of Derrick and Patrick yelling earmuff as Danny describes sex acts or tells them something they consider "to gay" to hear. Derrick calls some of his stories disgusting. Danny feels that both say they are fine with Danny being gay, inside they are still homophobic.
Back at the RV, they get their next clue "Plane and Simple." They are sure it will have something to do with a plane, possibly skydiving. The next morning they get ready to go. Derrick is driving. I am not exactly sure what happened because they never really explain what happened. I think there was a low hanging tree and the RV was too tall and ripped the tree out the ground. Ibis says they hit the tree. All I know is it cracks the windshield and rips a hole in the RV.
The poor tree is ripped from the ground and is laying over the top of some woman's car. She is freaking out and worried that the group will leave. She tells them not to leave because the police are coming. When they do arrive, we discover that in Chile everyone must go to the station to make sure that no one involved is under the influence. Ibis tells Derrick he must go in for a blood test.
Derrick is upset but not because he has to go to the police station, but because he will miss the mission. He does not want to let his team down. They tell him they will win it for him and then Derrick is placed in the police car. Patrick tells us this is our first arrest, probably not our last, but our first. He should be so proud.
The group continues to the mission. They are taken to an airfield where they meet up with Cristobal and Carolina. They tell them that their puzzle piece is hidden somewhere at the airfield. There are directions to find the piece but a word is missing in each direction.
