Road Rules 13: Episodes 6
Another One Bites The Dust
Recap By Cari C.
July 13, 2004
When we left off last week, the previews were obvious. Someone will be voted off this week. From the previews the sobbing sounds like it is coming from a girl. Of course this could be a trick since the obvious choice to get the boot is Danny. Let's get started and find out who does get the old boot.
The group is on the road again. Since the RV is still under repair, they are driving in the super cool Extreme van. I don't know how extreme a van can get but I guess it is better than an extreme station wagon. They have a 20 hour drive up the coast of Chile
The team is driving to their new destination of Calama. Patrick describes the scenery and he is right. On the left side they have an incredibly beautiful blue ocean while one the right they have amazing desert mountains.
As they are driving, a car full of girls pulls up beside the van and they are hanging out the car playfully yelling. Inside Danny is telling us how comfortable he has gotten with the group. So comfortable in fact, he decides to moon the girls in the car. I am glad he feels so comfortable now. He also yells that he wants the girls to flash them. Kina is shocked that the gay guy wants to see boobs.
That night as they are playing cards, they get their next clue. The clue tells them to wear long pants and tennis shoes. Ibis thinks they might be running in the desert. They are not sure what they are doing; they just know they have to win. Patrick does not want to have to vote off any of his friends.
In the tent, Danny and Ibis are talking about tomorrow. Danny is worried if they mess up this mission, he will have to go home. She understand his feelings. She tells him not to think about it. Danny thinks he has pulled his weight on every mission except the cow mission. He doesn't think he should be voted off for one mission when he has done so well on the others. He is going to make sure he does well tomorrow to prove he is not the weakest link.
I must say that if the voting took place right now, I would vote Danny off. I can't believe he is sitting there trying to convince us he should not go home. He single handily lost the cow mission for them. He almost did not do the bungee jumping mission because he was scared of heights. He showed up hung over to the waterfall mission. If it wasn't for Derrick, I think he could have lost that one too. I will give him credit, he has done better in the last two missions, but his butt has been on the line.
Anyway, back to the show. The group has headed out to the desert. They meet Filepe and Ximena the new mission mayors. They welcome them to the Atacama Desert, the driest place on earth. In this mission they will be driving a dessert obstacle course in dune buggies. Jodi is excited; she has dirt bikes at home. This should be no problem. Of course there is a catch, there's always a catch, this is Extreme Road Rules.
In this mission, the group will be divided into pairs. One of the pair will be the driver while the other will be the passenger. The driver will be in charge of steering the car and using the clutch and the shift, while the passenger is in charge of the brake and the gas. To make it even harder, the passenger will be blindfolded.
The teams of two will have to work together to communicate directions to each other to make it to the end. The driver must communicate with the passenger to tell them when to use the brake and the gas. Each pair will have to complete three laps. The times of each lap will be recorded and then added to together for a total time. After all three pairs complete nine laps; their total time must be less than 20 minutes. If it's not, they lose and will have to vote someone off.
The group pairs off. Derrick will be with Ibis, Patrick with Danny and Jodi with Kina. First up will be Derrick and Ibis. Derrick will be the driver while Ibis will be the passenger and be blindfolded. The two start off great. They finish the first lap in 2:03. They are working well together and start out on the second lap when the car dies.
In the course there are hills they must go over. If the driver does not tell the passenger to give enough gas, the car will not make it over the hill. This is what happens to Derrick and Ibis, their car stalls out and they are stuck as the seconds tick by. They eventually get started back and end the second lap in 3:26. They do much better in the last lap, finishing with a time of 1:52. Their total time is 7:21.
