Real World Austin: Oct. 25th Episode
Can A Brotha Get A Little Credit?
By Natasha Darius
October 26, 2005
On The Real World...So the crew is burning the midnight oil trying to get this South by Southwest documentary together. Nehemiah has been working the hardest and now everybody else is trying to come up to snuff on the project because of one incentive...the trip to Costa Rica. In my opinion, they don't deserve that trip. Something tells me MTV would have awarded that trip anyway. You know they need to throw a different scenery into the mix to get things stewing with the roommates. It's so expected with each RW season. Change the scenery and folk get even freakier than they would in the house or the most unpredictable couple end up in the sack. Go figure...
The big wigs from the University of Texas stops by the house to tell the RW crew that they need to take all the footage they shot and compile it to a 15 minute documentary. Well since Nehemiah received a degree in this type of stuff, everybody pretty much throws up their hands and decides to leave the responsibility to Nehemiah.
After all, he knows what he's doing and the documentary will look somewhat professionally done. Wes is convinced that the only time he'll be in the editing room is to take a girl in their. Yeah if that girl is in the form of a blow up doll. Can somebody please tell Wes that I said he is not the hype? Get over yourself!
Nehemiah started editing the project and showed some of it to his roommates. Everyone agrees that it looks pretty good so far. Miss Lacey as usual decides to make her comments behind his back and say, "we can't have a documentary with no one talking. It just looks like a music video." She's talking to Rachel about this in a cab. Now why couldn't she just say that to Nehemiah's face. Granted, Nehemiah may have a degree in videography or whatever, but it's still a team effort. Give a brotha some honest feedback.
It's time to show the edited documentary to the big wigs at U of T and they are not impressed. In fact they said the exact same thing Lacey was saying. "It's just 15 minutes of music video." Now they have to go back and redo the whole thing. That could have been avoided if Lacey was honest with Nehemiah about the project.
Anyhoo...Nehemiah goes out for a while. Lacey and Rachel are disturbed by this because they think that Nehemiah will not get the project done in time. And he has no right to go out at this late in the game. Okay...first of all, Nehemiah spent all his time editing the project by himself. Can a brotha get a break? Blow off some steam before he tackles this tedious project again? Rachel and Lacey decide to work on it while Nehemiah is at the club. Of course, we can count on Lacey for talking about folk again. She jumps on the phone with her boyfriend Ryan and tells him that Nehemiah is unreliable and the project of horrible.
Nehemiah came back from the club with the intent to start working on the project, but he ends up falling asleep with the rest of the house. However, he gets up early enough to finish it up. It's coming down to the wire and just like anything that happens at the eleventh hour, there's a glitch in the video. They can't transfer the footage onto a disc. While Lacey, Nehemiah and Rachel are scrambling to get this thing to work, Johanna is in her bed reading a book, Wes is sleeping, Danny and Mel are body-locking. (If you don't know, figure it out) Lacey calls one of the tech dudes from U of T to help and he saves the day.
It's screening time and the final product of South by Southwest is displayed for the film society. Nehemiah is feeling pretty confident and proud. By the looks on everyone else's face, excluding the roommates, the film society seemed to be somewhat impressed. The RW crew received a lot of feedback. According to Lacey, she thought the film society was being very kind. She said she was surprised that they didn't say it was totally awful. What is up with this chick? Can't you give anybody some credit? No positive vibes from her at all. Well, the film society was pleased and of course they earned their trip. If you ask me, Nehemiah earned that trip. Rachel, Lacey, Wes and Johanna earned maybe one third of that trip. Danny and Mel? All they earned was a year's supply of condoms and bubble gum flavored KY jelly.
Looks like the RW crew are on their way to Costa Rica.
