The Scholar: Episode 3
Helping Hands and Busting Brains
Recap By Matt Eickhoff
June 21, 2005
With two of the Final Five spots filled, the addition of tonight's third student will put us over the halfway mark. Who will join Melissa and Scot? Will Davis's cocky self finally find his spot in the top five? Can my personal favorite Amari step up and make a presence? Will Melissa keep on kicking major butt? Let's find out!
Tonight's show starts off with a slumber party. In order for everyone to get to know each other better, a slumber party has been arranged. All the contestants meet up in the living room sporting their PJ's. What slumber party would be complete without fun slumber party games? Francine, the house RA, joins the students and starts them off with a round of the question game. Everyone is to write down a question and put it in a bowl. The questions will be asked anonymously.
The first question was for the girls only. "Which guy in the house would you hook up with, and why?" Melissa steps up and says at first meeting, she would have picked Jeremy, but now after getting to know the guys she would pick Davis or Max.
Next question is "name the hottest body part of every person here". OK… is this The Scholar or The Real World? Seriously people… Max answers saying that Alyssa has "some of the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen". Of course then we see Max in interview saying that there is definitely a little something between him and Alyssa. Right after that, we go back to the game in the house were Max moves to Melissa and says "I have to go with the booty". Max, Max, Max… you started that off so well. Melissa returns by saying "Max, you're just plain sexy all together". Of course we see a pissed off look from Alyssa followed by an interview clip of her saying "I'm attracted to Max, but if he wants to be with Melissa, let him be with Melissa".
That ends the question game, and the coverage of the slumber party altogether. So basically the whole event was set up to expose some sparks between Max and Alyssa… and also Max and Melissa.
We see the students the following morning getting dressed and ready to head to the Captain's Quiz. Liz makes a comment that after this quiz, there will only be two more, so the pressure is definitely on. Alyssa says that she is used to being the students that shines and stands out from the rest of class, and here she is not that person, so she's struggling.
The ten students arrive, and Host Rob greets them. This weeks Captain's quiz is more of a puzzle than a trivia quiz. Rob uncovers four sections of jumbled letters, and lets the students know that there is one letter, that when added to each of the sections will make each section into a word. The students have to figure out that letter, and then unscramble the sections to figure out all four words. Now… I always tape the shows so I can write accurate recaps… and I've had this puzzle paused on my screen now for almost five minutes and I can't figure it out! It's not easy. It will be interesting to see how fast some of these kids can solve this brainteaser!
Time is up, and Rob reveals the answer.....
