Shear Genius: Victims Or Clients?
Episode 5 Recap by Travis H.
May 10, 2007
Last week on Shear Genius, Danna became the first stylist to win both the Short Cut Challenge and the Elimination Challenge during the same week. Evangelin continued carrying around the huge hedge clippers and decided this would now be her trademark. This proved to be too much for some of her fellow stylist's to handle and Tabatha and Evangelin had a blow-out over the clippers. In the end, Evangelin and her hedge clippers lost the Elimination Challenge and she made her final cut.

This week's episode begins a bit differently than in previous weeks. Instead of the stylists heading into the Shear Genius Salon, they find a note in their loft with directions to the next challenge. Since Danna won last week's elimination challenge, she reads the note which says "It's time for a trim. Enclosed are directions to your next challenge. See you there." Danna immediately thinks they are off to doggy day care and Tabatha says if there are dogs involved, she'll just turn around and walk straight out. Dr. Boogie notices it says there is time for a "trim" so he thinks it's going to be an elimination challenge.

Having won the previous two challenges, Danna is feeling the pressure to be perfect on this weeks challenge. Tabatha and Danna both agree that if it is a guy's haircut this week, then Dr. Boogie is most definitely going to be the winner. Boogie agrees saying that men's hair is right up his alley.

Do I really have to sign this?
As the stylists arrive at their destination, Shorty's Barber Shop, Jaclyn is there to greet them and asks if they think someone is going to get cut today. Boogie pops off and says it's time to kick someone out and specifically names Ben and Tyson. Ben smiles and acts like he's happy Boogie said his name and actually takes it as a compliment. Jaclyn finally tells the stylists that nobody will be going home after this challenge. Oddly, Boogie says "Thank Goodness", which is weird since he just said he wanted someone to go home. Maybe he was a little worried that he would be going home.

The guest judge for this challenge is "Legendary Hair Wizard" Cristophe. As usual, I have no idea who the heck this guy is although I have actually heard of him. Tabatha, Anthony and Danna all seem to be excited that he's there. Finally, the victims, or clients, are brought in and Tabatha is still convinced that they will be working on dogs. Luckily, it's not dogs, but men and boy do they need some help with their hair. This weeks Short Cut Challenge is "A Man's Makeover" and Jaclyn says that since they are at the hippest barber shop in Los Angeles, that it's the perfect place to take the men from geek to sheek. The stylists will have one hour to make the transformation and guest judge Cristophe will determine the winner. Ben is very relieved as this is much more his specialty. Sounds like Boogie may not win this competition so easily after all.

As winner of last weeks elimination challenge, Danna has first client choice. Everyone else will pick a scissor box and inside will be a number, two through seven, and the number they pick is the order in which they will get to choose their client. Boogie was lucky and get's to choose second, then it's Tabatha, Anthony, Ben, Daisy and lastly, Tyson. The winner of the Short Cut Challenge will have first choice of client in the next Elimination Challenge.

All of the stylists are asking their clients what they want done to their hair and Tabatha's client with long, sandy blonde hair just says he wants something with some style because he doesn't have any. He's right; he doesn't have any style. Tabatha says that men are lazy and she knows her client won't spend anytime on his hair so she wanted to get a shape in his hair so he won't have to do anything. Ben's client is a guitar player in a rock band and he tells his client he's going to make it look like he didn't get a haircut. Huh? Danna's client was petrified; he wanted a hair cut but he didn't want to go short.

Tyson is confident he's going to win and is bragging to his nappy, curly haired client that he's the greatest. Tabatha calls Tyson an evil leprechaun and says he thinks of himself as "FIGJAM" which stands for "Fuck I'm Good Just Ask Me". I'm might have to start using that one myself! Well, when I find what it is I'm good at I'll start using it. Anyhow, next thing you know it, Tyson is flat ironing his client's hair. I'm sorry, but I don't know many guys who would like this done. How many guys own a flat iron? Boogie says that when Tyson's client wets his hair and it goes back to its natural texture, the guy is going to be horrified.

Time is up and Cristophe makes.....
