Janu's Survivor Palau torch is up for auction after her unique departure from
the tribe. Previous auctions of Bobby Jon’s and Coby's torches were a great
success and the funds generated will go to support environmental research
in Palau.
Janu's Torch is auction number three and there will be four more auctions of
Survivor Palau torches as the successive contestants, not among the final
three, are voted off the island. Janu's Torch will be on auction for five days,
the auction concluding the day before the airing of the next episode of
Survivor Palau.
Have you ever wanted to own a truly unique piece of Survivor
Memorabilia, before the game is even finished? The Coral Reef Research
Foundation of Palau is going to auction, on eBay, 7 genuine Survivor Palau
torches recovered from the waters of the famous Rock Islands. These
torches were discovered in 60 feet of water after they had been "committed
to the deep" during the final episodes. We are assuming (although we
won't know the exact details until the final episodes air) these torches were "deep-sixed" by the "final three" in a contestant retrospective, probably in
the next to last episode (based on the Vanuatu show). Nearly a month later,
two of these torches were discovered by luck by marine scientist Dr. Patrick
Colin, while diving for research, and after realizing what they were, it
became a game to find as many as he could.
Hours of searching resulted in
7 torches eventually being found. Each torch has the name tag of a respective contestant, who we are assuming will not be among the final
three in Survivor Palau (otherwise their torch would not have been deepsixed in the ocean). Colin's interest turned to incredulity, when as the
weeks rolled by after the start of the show, none of the contestants whose
torches he had found were voted off the island. At the end of episode 8,
when Ibrehem was booted, there were now ten contestants left. Colin had 7
torches of contestants who were still on the show, but would be voted off
before only three ("the final three") were left. He now realized he knew
almost certainly who the final three would be (and who of the remaining ten
would be voted off). Don't ask him if your favorite contestant is or isn't
going to be among the final three, because he isn't saying. Seven
contestant torches will be put for auction on eBay after each contestant has
been voted off the show. Seven torches over the next seven weeks.
The proceeds from these auctions will go to support the environmental
research activities of the Coral Reef Research Foundation (CRRF) in Palau.
CRRF is a California non-profit organization engaged in cutting edge research
on the amazing marine environments of Palau, such as Jellyfish Lake
(featured in Episode 7). We also work on global warming and El Nino/La
Nina effects on reefs, and discovering new species of marine life.
