Chris Daugherty Wins Survivor Vanuatu

This is gonna be a LONG one, so settle in… speaking of long ones, Jeff's usual recap takes nine minutes, as he traces the entire course of the game right up to the point where Chris sent Julie packing.
It's Night 36, and back at camp Eliza is not happy that Chris lied to Julie and they didn't vote off Twila. She and Twila get into yet another argument, with Twila telling her "I don't think you deserve to be here." She goes on to say that all Eliza does is talk, and criticizes her work ethic. Eliza responds that "working hard is not necessarily playing the game," and saying that maybe Twila would've done better in Challenges had she conserved more energy. Twila tells her "The only reason you're here is everybody's used you up to this point." Chris tells Eliza one-on-one that Julie was a player, not to be trusted, and that he did it for THEIR alliance. He asks her to just have faith in him. (Amazingly, Eliza buys this total bullshit.) Privately, Chris makes it clear that he could care less about any of them.
Day 37 dawns, and Eliza is amazed that she's in the Final Four with the people she's with. Eliza knows that this Immunity Challenge is a must-win for her, as Twila and Scout both want her gone, but if she loses it, she at least wants Chris to win it.
The Immunity Challenge is a vertical maze, a Survivor first. The goal is to retrieve ten tied-together pairs of colored tiles, one pair at a time. Once the Survivor has all ten, he/she will untie them, keep the ten tiles that have letters on them, and spell out a two-word phrase. The first Survivor to do this wins Immunity. On my go…
The competition is actually pretty even, except for Scout, who basically just gets in the others' way as they try to climb around the vertical maze. The other three are tied at five each at one point, and while Chris is first to get all ten and start trying to spell out the phrase, Twila and Eliza aren't far behind. But Chris spells out the phrase: "Final Three", and so he wins Immunity! He is VERY emotional, punching the air and yelling.
Once they're back at camp, they send Eliza away on an errand, and Chris, Scout, and Twila have a three-way group hug. Eliza is definitely going home. Privately, Twila says, "Right now I just wanta gloat." Chris plays into that feeling, advising Twila to go ahead and rag on Eliza. But Twila sees his strategy-to get another member of the Jury pissed at her-and thinks twice. Chris talks with Scout, reassuring her. Basically, he's working everybody, while privately he voices his contempt: "Pretty much I'll have to PUT UP WITH three women, and that SUCKS." He tells Eliza what SHE wants to hear-their pact is solid. Eliza believes him. Eliza even tries to float the idea of voting Twila off to Scout, but Scout isn't jumping on THAT one. Chris sums up his ultimate strategy: "It's all about just getting yourself to the next step. To hell with everybody else."
Tribal Council! A lot of inanities. Jeff reminds Chris about the first-Challenge balance beam fiasco. Some other questions, but nothing worth repeating, other than Twila publicly saying she was ashamed about swearing on her son's name, saying "I never shoulda done it." When it comes to the vote, there's no real surprise: Chris votes with Twila and Scout to oust Eliza. Eliza stares at Chris for at least four or five seconds before getting up to have her flame extinguished, and even afterwards she shoots him another dirty look before taking the Walk of Shame. He just smiles and shrugs as if to say, "Sucks being you, but what could I do?"
Night 37, and back at camp the Final Three are happy: no Eliza anymore! Scout says "This night is beautiful… there's no Eliza-noise in camp…"
Day 38 begins, and I'm not going to say much about the obligatory Memory Walk past the torches of their "fallen comrades". They DO have to paddle a long way, across to the island where Roy Mata is buried, to do this. That takes awhile, and after the walk past the torches, they each lay a memento at Roy's grave. Very touching, very BORING, and basically an excuse to eat up seven minutes of show time.
The Final IC, and it's a good one: after all the rowing and walking, they get to stand on uneven stumps in their bare feet, while holding a bow-and-arrow in the standard cocked archery position. When they draw back the arrow, a little paper marker drops down in front of the arrowhead. If they ease up on the bow, the arrowhead will come forward, piercing the marker, and they'll be out. If they step off the stumps, they'll be out. Survivors ready…
As expected, Scout is out first. After 30 minutes, Twila and Chris are hanging in there, and Chris wants Twila to give up, telling her she's safe. She ain't buying that-why don't YOU give up, Chris? Then Scout speaks up, urging Twila on, and now Chris is convinced that if Twila gets it, she's taking Scout instead of him. Fifty-five minutes comes and goes. More talking. Finally, at one hour and seven minutes, Twila starts to slip off the stumps, and in righting herself, she eases up enough on the bow that she inadvertently pierces the marker. Chris wins the final Immunity!
