By Kelley Rhodes
|
|
Tonight's episode of The Swan is one of firsts: Neither of the women will receive breast implants and one woman actually needs to gain 15 pounds. One woman feels terribly rejected because of her ex-husband's betrayal and the other one has a nose that's been the bane of her existence. Which woman will change enough on both the inside and outside to make it to the pageant? Let's meet them and find out.

First up is Sarina V. a 36-year-old charity volunteer from Denver CO who describes herself as 'just okay. I'm just there; I'm not pretty or ugly'. Sarina actually feels that she is the 'ultimate plain Jane'. Part of Sarina's problem is a result of the break-up of her four year marriage. Sarina caught her husband Lucky (he doesn't sound all that lucky to me) cheating on her on Valentines Day - no less. Sarina was devastated at discovering Lucky's infidelity two and a half years into the marriage, and soon divorced him. "I feel like a fool because I would have bet people a million dollars that nothing could ever come between us. But it did." Sarina says. Lucky admits that he made some bad choices in the relationship. "She believed in me and I let her down." he says.

Sarina wants to move forward, but the rejection has made it very difficult for her to start another relationship. "In my life right now, I'm just a little lost." says Sarina.
Amanda Byram tells the panel of experts that Sarina breaks her heart - she is crying out for help needs direction. She asks them what they can do to help. Therapist Lynn Ianni says Sarina is ambivalent about her relationship; she needs to either get in or get out. Dr. Terry J. Dubrow says Sarina needs a brow lift, upper eye lift and extensive liposuction on her body. Trainer Greg Comeaux wants to get rid of Sarina's flabby belly with serious cardio work.
Her plan includes:
On her face - a brow lift, mid-face lift, fat transfer to lips, upper eyelid fat removal, mole removal and fotofacial and Lasik eye surgery.
On her body - liposuction on six areas of her body: thighs, abdomen, flanks, knees, calves, and ankles.
Her dental work - Zoom bleaching, gum tissue recontouring, deep cleaning and orthodontic work to straighten her bottom teeth.
Her fitness regimen will include a 1200 calorie a day diet, and will spend over 120 hours in the gym for cardio exercise and weight training.
To heal from her heartbreak and betrayal, Sarina will undergo weekly therapy and life coaching.
Can they whip Sarina into shape in time for the pageant? We'll find out.

Next, we meet 25-year-old Kelly B. from Milwaukee, WI. Kelly, who works in retail, would like to be a professional cheerleader but her low self-esteem holds her back. Kelly had a great childhood with her brother and sister growing up. Kelly was outgoing until the third grade when a few boys started tormenting her about her oddly shaped nose. "When kids start teasing you it hurts a lot. It really wrecked, like, a lot of years of my childhood." Although she'd like to try out to be a professional cheerleader, her physical appearance, especially her face, holds her back. Her dad William thinks Kelly needs to overcome a mental block about her looks - her family thinks she looks fine. Her boyfriend, Eathan, says he will be happy with whatever work Kelly gets done if it makes her happy. Will he really?

Amanda asks the experts what they can do to help Kelly become more self-confidant. Dr. Ianni wants to help Kelly build her self-esteem. Dr. Haworth wants to accentuate her beautiful eyes by balancing her face with cheek implants and lip enhancement. Trainer Comeaux wants to add 15 pounds of muscle to her slight frame.
Her plan includes:
On her face - a nose job, brow lift, cheek and chin implants, lower eye fat transfer, ear lobe reduction, lip augmentation, mole removal and restylane line filler.
At the dentist - Zoom bleaching, DaVinci veneer, gum surgery and deep cleaning.
Her fitness regimen will include a weight-gaining 2300 calorie a day diet and concentrate on muscle building in the gym.
She will build her low self-esteem with weekly therapy and counseling.
Will Kelly finally feel great about herself for the first time since she was a child? Let's find out.
Kelly meets with Dr. Randal D. Haworth who explains how he wants to transform her face. He will take out the ugly bump in her nose and straighten it. He generates a computer image of what her new nose will look like and recommends cheek implants to balance her face. A tearful Kelly likes what she sees.
Kelly is the only contestant so far who needs to gain weight. Weighing a mere 102 lbs. even though she chows down on fast food (lucky girl!); Kelly hopes to improve her eating habits while on the Swan program. Before her surgery, Kelly calls her boyfriend to share her excitement. He (a dud who needs his walking papers) upsets her by saying he doesn't want her to have cheek implants; he thinks she'll look freaky. This call upsets Kelly who goes into the surgery without the support she so desperately wanted. After her procedure, Kelly wakes up from her surgery in good spirits, but because she can't see herself in the mirror she begins to believe her nose has an indention in it. Dr. Haworth explains that she feels her stitches, but he is worried about her emotional state. Kelly's less than supportive and uncommunicative boyfriend only ads to her worries. Dr. Lynn Ianni works with Kelly to overcome her feelings due to being bullied as a child and to learn to better express herself and her needs.
Meanwhile, Sarina meets with Dr. Terry J. Dubrow. He explains what he needs to do to raise her brows and improve her body. Dr. Dubrow tells her that she needs lots of liposuction, especially on her 'cankels' - the area where her calves and ankles have no definition. He assures her he can fix this, she says he'd better!
Sarina, who admits she has always struggled with her weight, has to shed 30 lbs. in order to make it to the pageant. Sarina looks forward to her surgery and says, "If I feel beautiful, maybe I'll have the confidence to put myself out there and start a new relationship."
Immediately after her surgery, Sarina asks Dr. Dubrow if he lipo'd her 'cankles', he did! Although her surgery was a success, Sarina cannot break her ties to her ex-husband. She is slowly letting him back into her life instead of working on herself. While I know this guy treated her horribly in the past, I must give him credit for being very supportive of her during this process. The problem is, they are divorced and Sarina needs to get on with her life. Nely Galan confronts Sarina about Lucky's distraction in her life. "How badly does someone have to hurt you for you to put yourself first?" Galan asks her. She must focus on herself if she wants to make it to the pageant. "No more Lucky - bye bye Lucky!" Galan advises her.

The Reveal
It's time for Sarina's reveal. Sarina walks through the double doors wearing a long, low-cut black dress. Amanda welcomes her and the experts applaud. Sarina approaches the red curtain to see herself for the first time since her transformation began. Sarina lets out a loud "Awwww"! She looks again and shrieks again. After many 'oh my Gods', Amanda assures her that she looks wonderful; Sarina is stunned. She finally feels pretty and says, "Plain Jane has left the building!"

Next, Kelly emerges through the double doors to the usual round of applause. She is wearing a tight black dress with a sheer skirt. Kelly flexes her shapely upper arms for Amanda who tells her that those are true cheerleader arms. Kelly tells Amanda that therapy was her hardest challenge - she feels she can tackle anything now.
Kelly walks over to the red curtain and waits. The curtain is drawn back and Kelly is thrilled with her new look. "I look absolutely beautiful!" she says. "I have to pinch myself." Kelly never thought she could look like this. She thanks the experts who are also thrilled with her results. Will it be enough to send her on to the pageant?

The time is here. Amanda holds the card with the winner's name inside. The women join each other and await the decision.
Sarina goes to the pageant!
Kelly and Sarina embrace. Amanda congratulates Sarina and says goodbye to Kelly, who is surprised by her parents and other members of her family. Her mom Sue says she likes everything about her new look, but hopes she will be the same Kelly only more confidant. Her dad thinks this will help her in whatever she does now in her life. Noticeably missing is her boyfriend Eathan. Maybe Kelly got rid of more than just her bothersome nose. Let's hope so.
