First up is Marnie R. a medical assistant from Chesterfield IL who is studying to be a nurse. Only 35 years old, Marnie - who is already a very beautiful woman - feels more like she's sixty. Marnie is a single mom of two who has the entire responsibility of running a household and raising her sons; she is exhausted and it shows. Separated for many years, Marnie says her husband left her because he didn't want the responsibility of a family. Her dreams of having a normal family shattered, Marnie says, "I would love to look sexy and glamorous just to feel like I'm alive again." Marnie is very lonely and hasn't had a date in ten years. Her mom Marilyn says Marnie is depressed and seems to have 'thrown in the towel and given up'.

Next we meet Dawn G. a 33 year old homemaker and mother of three from Hobart IN. Dawn says she sometimes feels like an ugly duckling and was always called the 'little fat girl' growing up. Dawn doesn't feel sexy even when wearing beautiful lingerie. After giving birth to three kids, things have only gotten worse. Her husband Andy says, "No matter how much I, or anybody else, has told her she looks really good, you can just tell in the tone of her voice and see it in her eyes that she just doesn't feel good about herself."
Always self-conscious of her gapped front teeth, Dawn hid her teeth in her wedding photos. Her parents divorced when she was two and she didn't have a relationship with her father.
|
A frazzled mom herself these days, Dawn was raised by a busy mom who she felt resented having to take care of her. Dawn says, "As I got older I just thought: this is who I am - take it or leave it."
Dawn hopes changing her appearance will also change the way she feels on the inside.
Amanda consults the experts for a plan for Dawn. Dr. Ianni feels that because of her upbringing Dawn uses anger to mask her true feelings. Cosmetic dentist Dr. Sherri Worth wants to close the gaps on Dawn's teeth, deal with her periodontal disease and feminize her smile. Dr. Terry J. Dubrow recommends work to feminize her face and lots of body work.
Her plan includes:
On her face - a brow lift, fat removal under her eyes, mid-face lift, nose refinement, cheek refinement, collagen injections, chin lift, several fotofacials and Botox injections around her eyes.
On her body - a nipple lift, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, body liposuction and laser hair removal.
Her dental work - gum surgery, deep cleaning, root canals, tooth extraction, bridge and 14 DaVinci veneers.
Her fitness regimen will include twice a day workouts, aerobics and leg exercises to jump-start her metabolism.
Dawn will also receive weekly therapy and coaching to help her better deal with lingering feelings from her difficult childhood.
Will this be enough to help Dawn make it to the pageant?
The women arrive in LA to meet with their surgeons and begin their three month transformations. Dawn is pleased with her accommodations and relieved to live for awhile without mirrors. Marnie hopes to be rejuvenated during her 90-day journey in the Swan program.
Dawn visits Dr. Worth to begin her extensive dental work. Dr. Worth says Dawn's case is one of the worst she has ever seen and has called in two other dentists to assist her. Dawn is shocked to learn of her severe condition. Dr. Worth will spend an entire day creating a beautiful smile for Dawn, but more importantly trying to save Dawn's teeth. She's not sure it will work.
Meanwhile, Marnie meets Dr. Haworth to discuss her plastic surgery. Dr. Haworth is very concerned with the noticeable bags under Marnie's eyes. He measures her breasts and recommends a very natural breast augmentation and liposuction on her legs. Marnie is very excited, but a little nervous.
Dawn meets Dr. Dubrow to discuss her surgery. He advises a tummy tuck to flatten her stomach, and also explains to Dawn how he plans to improve her face and the rest of her body. Dawn is really anxious about her upcoming surgery.
Marnie's day of surgery arrives. Dr. Haworth wants to get rid of her sad look to help increase her self-confidence. He says in two months Marnie will look fabulous. After her successful procedure, Marnie wakes up and asks to be kept medicated. The experts are worried that Marnie's decade-long depression may interfere with her recovery.
Dr. Dubrow completes Dawn's surgery. She endured many procedures, as well as extensive dental work, and has a very difficult recovery ahead of her. Dr. Dubrow worries that she won't heal in time for the pageant.
Their surgeries complete, both Dawn and Marnie now begin the arduous process of healing while also working out. Dawn is having a hard time sticking to her diet and has 15 pounds to lose. She is also suffering with migraine headaches.
Marnie isn't wearing her post-operative gear as she was advised; Dr. Haworth tells her she must wear her chin strap everyday even though she says it's uncomfortable. Nely Galan pops in on Marnie and catches her without her girdle and chin strap once again. She scolds her and tells her that she won't get good results or be ready for the pageant if she doesn't comply with the doctor's orders.
Dawn is depressed and in a lot of pain. She's also gaining weight. Galan pours over Dawn's grocery list and finds lots of offending food items. Galan warns Dawn to give up the hot dogs, pork chops and cream cheese telling her, "If you don't change your eating habits, you're gonna be a tub when you get home." Ouch.
Trainer Comeaux shows Dawn what those pesky 15 pounds of fat look like. He tells her she must hit the gym hard to burn off the fat.
Meanwhile, Marnie appears unmotivated at the gym. Comeaux says she wouldn't break a sweat if left to her own devices. He tells her she must step it up a bit if she wants to succeed.
Dawn calls home and her children are clearly unhappy with her. After a tense conversation, she hangs up. Dr. Ianni hopes to help her overcome her habit of being angry with her children. She encourages her to write letters to them. Will the once unhappy child finally overcome all her obstacles and be possible Swan contender?
Still unmotivated, Marnie is taking full advantage of the rest she has been offered during the program. Marnie hasn't left her room in three days and Galan worries that she's not beating her depression. Marnie explains to Galan that she still feels sad, and that she can't feel better until she sees herself. She really wants to feel happy on the inside and look great on the outside. Will Marnie become motivated enough to be a serious threat in the upcoming pageant? Let's find out now.

The Reveal
Amanda greets the experts. Nely Galan is excited about Marnie's reveal because Marnie is someone who has to see it to believe it. Dr. Haworth says Marnie had great bone structure to begin with, so her surgery complimented what she already had.
A tall, blonde, unbelievably beautiful Marnie walks through the double doors wearing a long hot pink evening gown with elbow length matching pick gloves. Amanda tells her that she is 'one sexy mama'. I agree! Marnie walks to the red curtain. She can't believe what she sees. She is absolutely gorgeous. I predict that she will be the winner of the pageant. Nely Galan says the once-depressed Marnie now sashays into the room like a movie star.

Now it's Dawn's turn. Can she possibly outshine Marnie? Dr. Worth says she is thrilled with Dawn's new smile, saying Dawn now has 'a Mercedes in her mouth'. Dr. Dubrow feels he was very successful in feminizing both Dawn's face and body.
Dawn walks into the room wearing a beautiful long black dress. Her hair is lighter and longer. Amanda tells her what a beautiful smile she has now. The curtain parts and Dawn smiles the biggest smile of her life. She is clearly pleased with her results and says, "My husband is gonna die. He's going to think he's married to a new woman." Dawn thanks the experts. Amanda says Dawn is now officially a Swan.

The moment of reckoning is here. Dawn and Marnie join Amanda to find out who will be competing in the upcoming pageant for a chance to be crowned the ultimate Swan and receive prizes worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Amanda opens the card and reads the name of the winner. Marnie!
Dawn hugs Marnie, and then tells Amanda that she's happy because she can now go home and start her new life. Dawn's husband and youngest child surprise her. Brian tells her that she looks beautiful and he can tell right away that she feels better about herself. He says she will want to wear two-piece swimsuits and show herself off now. Her two oldest sons and her best friend follow. Dawn's oldest son, playfully asks, "Where's my mom?" Her middle son Brian says, "I think it's extremely important for my mom to finally feel pretty." It sure is, Brian. Congratulations, Dawn.
