By Kelley Rhodes
November 9, 2004
I'm back! After recapping every episode of The Swan earlier this year I had decided not to recap The Swan 2, but recently the show became available so I decided to give it another shot. For any of you Swan wannabes casting has begun on the Swan 3. You can click on our casting information link on this page.
Episode 3 of the Swan begins as we meet 24-year-old Erica from Washington State. Erica has struggled with her weight her whole life. Adopted as an infant by a petite Japanese mom and American dad, Erica was teased as a child because she was chubby. Her mom Emi says no amount of plastic surgery will give Erica a fashion model body. After Erica's ex-boyfriend bankrupted her financially and emotionally, she reached an all-time high weight of 240 lbs.
Erica embarked on a weight loss journey and successfully dropped 90 lbs, but her dramatic weight loss left her with saggy breasts and skin. Erica wants her external appearance to reflect her inner joy. She wants to feel "wow and pizzazz" in her life.
The panel of experts devises a plan for Erica that will include:
On her face: Brow Lift, Mid-Face Lift, Lip Augmentation, Fat Transfer, Chin Implant, Liposuction: Chin, Neck.
On her body: Breast Augmentation, Tummy Tuck, Liposuction: Abdomen, Thighs.
Dental: Gum Recontouring, Zoom Bleaching, Crowns, DaVinci Veneers
Fitness: 1200 calories/day diet, Gym: 2 hrs /day, 6 days/wk.
Confidence building: Weekly therapy and coaching.
Next, we meet 30-year-old military wife and mom Christina, also from Washington. Emotionally neglected as a child, Christina says her marriage suffers because of her appearance. After losing 30 lbs, Christina's husband Michael says Christina feels even worse about her appearance now. Christina is plagued with saddle bags on her thighs. She wants to increase her self-confidence so that she can be a good role model for her 8-year-old daughter.
The plan for Christina includes:
Face: Lip Augmentation, Nose Job, Brow Lift, Laser Hair Removal, and Fotofacials.
Body: Breast Augmentation, Liposuction: Thighs, Back, Abdomen, Chin, Knees.
Dental: Full Reconstruction, Zoom Bleaching, Extractions, Gum and Bone Recontouring.
Fitness: 1700 calories/day diet, Gym: 2 hrs. /day, 6 days/wk., Cardio, Weight Training.
Confidence building: Weekly therapy and coaching.
Surgery and Recovery
The contestants arrive in LA to discover that they will live without mirrors for the next few months. They consult with their respective surgeons to begin their work. Christina needs extensive dental work. Erica is told that she needs to lose an additional 30 lbs, but she is determined to make it to the pageant. Christina begins to resist her Swan regimen after hitting the gym for the first time.
Erica faces her fears of the dentist and accepts the veneers Dr. Sherri Worth recommended to repair her decayed teeth. Erica looks forward to her fresh start, but Christina is filled with apprehension over what lies ahead.
Dr. Randall Hayworth performs the surgery on Erica. Next, Dr. Terry Dubrow performs surgery on Christina who admitted that she is having panic attacks. Dr. Dubrow worries that she will face a very painful recovery.
Two days into her recovery Christina is in a lot of pain. Meanwhile, Erica is feeling much better. That's a good thing because Erica faces a lot of hard work in the gym. Dr. Dubrow chastises Christina for refusing to wear her chin strap. He feels that he has done his part, but she isn't doing hers.
Dr. Lynn Ianni counsels Erica, who realizes she never felt good enough for her mother. She realizes she needs to grow up. Life coach Nely Galan confronts Christina about her lack of commitment to the Swan program. Galan feels that she has succeeded in motivating Christina to change her attitude in time to make it to the pageant.
