Episode 4
Surfing and Runway Challenges
Recap by Evan D. Baltz
January 27, 2005
It's down to the final four. Alicia feels that she is the one the other girls are out to get. She feels they don't like her. She is right. They don't. Alicia is focused on winning, not making friends. As Bob Sugar would say, "It's not show friends, its show business."

Alicia and Shannon butt heads on the bus, arguing about this and that. Every time you have a group of girls together you need Rodney King there to plead, "Why can't we all just get along." Tina Fey requites a line in her audio commentary to the movie Mean Girls, "If girls didn't hate each other, they could rule the world."

Alicia tells us her sob story to Stacy and to us in the diary room. Apparently she had bad parents. She was taken away by social services at some point. She breaks down in the diary room recounting her bad childhood. It seems sincere, but with these shows and the public voting, you never know. It would explain some of her inability to get along with other though.
Shannon talks to her boyfriend on the phone. She says that they have not had sex and won't until marriage. We also find out that Shannon seems to be disgusted by feet. She doesn't like Stacy picking at her feet or having her feet by Shannon.

The first challenge is a surfing challenge. The girls meet surfer/model Malia Jones at the beach. Their challenge is to paddle out to a buoy on a surfboard. The winning team will compete for the SuperModel Pass. Shannon is afraid of the water and practically cries just thinking about getting in. She decided to wear a lifejacket. It doesn't look like she will even be able to get into the water. As she and Stacy compete on one team, Jenna and Alicia are on the other team. In the end Shannon proves she can do it and her and Stacy win. Then in head to head competition, Shannon wins the SuperModel Pass and some diamonds. She gives the other pass to Jenna. Stacy is upset by this decision.

The next challenge is a runway event. The girls meet supermodel Petra Nemcova. This must have been filmed before her trip to Phuket. She was nearly killed in the Tsunami and lost her boyfriend. She tells the girls that the winners of the SuperModel Pass will get to do an extra runway walk and wear expensive diamonds. As each one walks the runway in swimwear, we hear the judges critique them. After the event the judges deliberate. They like Stacy. They are a little put off by Jenna's fake boobs, but like her body.

The elimination takes place at the L.A. Coliseum. Stacy is critiqued first. They had discussed that Stacy was "confident." But she has become increasingly obnoxious to me. They tell her she did well, but she needs to continue to keep her smile small. Good advice, she looks like the Grinch when she smiles. They judges tell Alicia that she has listened to them well and looks better. She has toned her body. They tell Shannon that she is still posing and needs to relax. Jenna is told that she still looks pinup. They drop Jenna. And then there were three. These final three girls will be going to Bora Bora next week. Jenna complains that she doesn't understand why the girl who had the best body was eliminated. She did have the best body, but alas, part of it was fake and that did her in. So let that be a lesson to all you ladies out there: Keep it real.
