The Amazing Race 7 & Fear Factor
An Amazing Racer Faces His Fears

I was a huge Fear Factor fan. I watched it all the time. Lately I haven't been watching it but every once in a while I will catch a rerun on FX. How surprised was I when low and behold one of my favorite Amazing Racers showed up on the show.
For those of you not familiar with Fear Factor, it is a show where contestants must perform a series of nasty, scary tasks in the hopes of winning $50,000. Brian Smith on the brothers who last week wrecked his vehicle is one of the most infamous Fear Factor contestants ever. If you have had a chance to watch the VH-1 special about Fear Factor, you can see some of the background of what happened on that episode.
This particular episode was a particularly nasty one. This was the Christmas episode and after making his way into the second round, Brian met his match when he had to eat a cod egg sac covered in ants. Each remaining contestant had to choose a gift from under the tree. Inside each box was a different disgusting thing to eat. Items ranged from the egg sac to a sausage casing stuffed with worms to live dragonflies.
While the other contestants either gave up or ate their item, Brian decided it would be funny to crack jokes. This contest is timed and Brian ran out of time. He still had stuff in his mouth when Joe Rogan the host called time. He was disqualified but refused to leave. He was sure the time was wrong and was not leaving after eating that nasty egg sac with all those ants.
In the end he still lost and did not go on to compete in the final event. If you get a chance to check out the episode I highly recommend it. It put Brian in a new perspective. I thought he was a complete jerk on Fear Factor but he has been one of my favorites on The Amazing Race. So which Brian is the real Brian? Only time shall tell.
