The Weaver's go to Washington

Recap by Cari C.
October 5, 2005
Before I begin the recap for this week I would like to get something off my chest. I know that not everyone likes history but I do. I also like geography and anything pertaining to the United States so you can imagine how frustrated I am by the Weaver family.

I know it shouldn't upset me so bad but how in the world does a teenager not know where the capital of the country they live in is? I know it is not a major issue to most people but it is a huge pet peeve of mine. It is an absolute disgrace that in this day and age a family would have such little knowledge of the country they live in.

I can only hope that when the Weaver family sees how dumb they looked on national television it will wake them up and maybe, just maybe, they might pay more attention at school.
Okay I got that off my chest. I feel much better now so on with the recap. Last week the families all arrived at the Pit Stop in Pennsylvania for a mandatory rest period. The sisters who were the first to arrive at 7:57 pm will depart at 7:57 am. Teams must now travel 15 miles to York Pennsylvania and find Shoe house Road. Once on the road they must locate the Haines shoe and search the shoe for the next clue. The sister's head out with a ten-minute lead on the Gaghan family who depart at 8:07 am. Not far behind are the Weavers at 8:08 am and the Roger's at 8:09 am. Is it just me or the Roger dad a real jerk? I would also like to ask that the older Weaver daughter be made to never wear those pink shorts on television again.

While the others either head for the shoe or stop for gas, the other teams prepare to leave the Pit Stop. At 8:18 am the Schroeder family departs and they decide to take a shortcut they have found to get to the shoe faster. At 8:21 am the Paolo family departs and right away the fighting begins. The mother whines because nobody listens to her and the sons yell at her. Can you even imagine what it is like to live with this family? At 8:24 the Bransen family departs. The Aiello's follows them at 8:37 am and last but not least, the Linz family departs at 8:45 am.

With all teams now on their way we turn our attention to the big shoe where the Gaghan family is the first to arrive. The dad jumps out of the car and runs up to the top of the big shoe to retrieve the clue. Once he gets back inside the car he opens the clue. Teams must now drive 110 miles to Washington DC and find the reflecting pool in front of the US Capitol building. Once there they must search for the clue box to get their next clue. The Gaghan's take off for DC.

Apparently the Schroeder's shortcut paid off because they are the next to arrive at the shoe. They retrieve the clue and head out. The Weaver's are next to obtain the clue and it is at this point where the older Weaver girl asks, "What state is that in? Washington?" Can someone please stop the insanity? The Roger's arrive next and after retrieving the clue the father tells the son to take 30 East. Of course since everyone else is taking 30 West, I am going to assume that the Roger family is now lost. As they continue to go further away from DC, the Paolo family arrives. They retrieve the clue just as the Bransen family shows up.

As the other teams make their way to DC, the Aiello's and the Linz's finally arrive at the giant shoe. One of the Aiello boys is excited to be going to DC since he lived there for three years. He then tells the others how easy it will be to find the reflecting pool since it is right in between the Lincoln and Washington Memorials. Now if you have ever been to DC you should know that those two memorials are nowhere near the Capitol building. There are in fact to reflecting pools. The one at the monuments is just larger and better known. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of lost families in DC.

On the road to nowhere, the Roger's finally realize their mistake. Well I should rephrase that, they know a mistake was made but they aren't really sure what it was. The father is very sure however that his son Brock is to blame. Meanwhile the Gaghan family is the first to arrive on DC and just as I predicted they went to the monument reflecting pool instead of the Capitol one. The Schroeder's arrive right after the Gaghan's and both search for the clue box in the wrong place.

Over at the capital, the sisters have arrived in the right place and begin searching for the clue. The Weaver's are right behind them and beat them to the clue box. Teams must find the limo parked on 3rd street where an unseen contact will hand them a briefcase. They must then take the briefcase and head for the Tidal Basin to search for the next clue. The Weaver's depart for the Basin with the sister's right behind them. Back at the wrong reflecting pool the Schroeder's have figured out they are in the wrong place. They decide not to share the information with the Gaghan's and leave for the correct location.

The Paolo's finally get.....
