Alex Lambert
I write on staff for Reality TV Calendar, but my regular job is working for local government with the homeless community.
I also happens to be a huge fan of Alex Lambert that and have been following him regularly the past year including reading all of his tweets.
You bet I have plenty to say about the overreaction of a few tweets from Alex Lambert and I am furious.
I cannot believe how a few tweets in reply to some questions from Alex's fans got blown up so out of proportion to go viral on numerous blogs, be picked up by news sites that are usually considered legitimate, and all this happened without any fact checking first. What happened to due diligence.
I can understand using tweets as a starting point for a news article. Why was Alex not contacted about what he meant and then possibly there is a news story. Tweets by themselves out of context are not a news story. Even if Alex were to come out in future interviews that supported this story, it is inexcusable to build a news story just out of a few random tweets in the first place without a solid basis for context.. This is a so-called news story that never should have been.
Let clear things up right now, Alex Lambert never claimed to be actually homeless in his tweets.
Granted his clarification tweets did not help and he last few tweets are all over the place so even I am confused right now, but Alex has had a place to stay. His fans know that Alex has been looking for an apartment for a while, but there has been some delays. Alex has been mainly sleeping on the couch at the house of a band called Purple Melon. The band Purple Melon were guests a few times at the dreamhouse when Alex wason the online reality show If I Can Dream and Purple Melon live near by the dreamhouse. Alex even crashed there at times when he lived in the dreamhouse.
Maybe Alex had a falling out with Purple Melon and Alex has not wanted to go back there to sleep, I don't know and frankly don't really consider it to be my business. However, Alex had been tweeting to his fans why he had not been immediately accessible, in a temporary phase of using free Internet at places like coffeehouses. His fans were concerned about the time gaps in his replies. Alex wanted to let his fans know that his fans were still important to him and that he would do anything for his music.
Recently, a frustrated Alex had vented in some tweets that made Alex seem really down. I honestly think we all have those days. A few fans were worried that Alex might be wanting to give up on his music career. Alex then tweeted back that it could not be farther from the truth. Alex is very passionate about his music career and will do whatever it takes. Alex also had wanted to be honest that he had been struggling recently and that he was not some rich kid that expected everything handed to him. He was grateful for the opportunities and was working hard. This is some of the context for his tweets.
Alex made the comment that he is kinda homeless in a tweet meaning that he has not had his own place to live since If I Can Dream ended. What seems to fuel the fire of actual homelessness are his mentions in other tweets of sleeping near buildings. Keep in mind that in those tweets that Alex never said that he was actually homeless. There are alternative explanations. People have very shallow ideas of homelessness and the struggling poor. Reality is a lot more complex. I don't know exactly what Alex meant by sleeping near building as I write this, but I can speculate based on what else I know about Alex and what I know about poor people struggling to live their dreams.
Unfortunately this false frenzy.....
