American Idol: The Top Ten Best Idol Performances Ever! Commentary By RTVC Senior Staff Writer Joseph Braverman May 24, 2011
This is the American Idol finale week, and ten seasons have gone by, so naturally we have to conclude with the final ten best performances in American Idol history.
Some may shock you, some may make you blissfully nostalgic, and some may make you wonder what the heck we were thinking.
Got thoughts? Post them at the end.
Here Goes:
10. *Tie* “Natural Woman” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” Kelly Clarkson, Season 1, 1960s Week, and Clay Aiken, Season 2, Finale Week
There is no question in my mind that these two performances have to be on this list.
This was Kelly’s defining moment, as it showcased her astonishing ability to contemporize a classical song and make it sound relevant without losing the integrity of soul.
For Clay, it showed that as a vocalist he was bound for greatness past the Idol stage.
The reason why they are tied is that they do not resonate on a personal or emotional level for me.
Call me a heartless bastard, but these performances were sung amazingly well and are worthy of being on the top ten if I’m being objective, but they were more of performances that I felt should be on this list rather than what I personally wanted.
This is why I could not put one above the other. I still believe they are amazing, and they are both a few of the reasons why Clarkson and Aiken became superstars.
