American Idol Contestant Commits Suicide Outside Paula Abdul's House November 12, 2008
A former American Idol contestant was found dead in a car parked outside the Los Angeles home of Idol judge Paula Abdul.
Paula Goodspeed, who auditioned for season 5 of American Idol, died of an apparent drug overdose. The 30-year-old’s mother reported her missing and told authorities that her daughter may be around Abdul’s house.
"Ms. Goodspeed's mother had gone to [the sheriff's department] to report her daughter missing, and advised them that she might be suicidal. The sheriffs determined that Ms. Goodspeed may be up in the vicinity by Paula Abdul's house. Our officers discovered her vehicle parked on the street, and found her inside. She was unresponsive to officers,” says Los Angeles police Capt. James Miller.
Goodspeed’s body was found in her car, which was parked a few doors down from Abdul’s home. A photo of the singer hung from the rear view mirror. LAPD officer April Harding says that Goodspeed’s death appears to be a suicide.
Abdul was not at her home with Goodspeed’s body was found. “I am deeply shocked and saddened at what transpired yesterday. My heart and prayers go out to her family,” Abdul said in a statement.
