American Idol: A Parade Of Nightmares Commentary by Idolhead Ed
January 27, 2012
Fabulous Skylar Laine.
On American Idol it’s time for a revolution in Texas and I got a little excited.
One has to wonder where all the good guy singers are. While I am still waiting to be blown away at least on Thursday night I was partially resuscitated.
And I don’t know how long this will last but I was with J Lo more than the guys. Tonight we got to see some crap but at least it was weathered with some promising prospects.
They for some unknown reason start off with a terrible singer, 25 year old Phong Vu. And no, William Hung he isn’t. Take that however you want.
Got thoughts? Post them at the end.
Followed by two more vocal breakdowns in 22 year old Cameron Dobbins and 18 year old LaMounte Hill. I looked down for a minute and when I looked back up I thought this guy was actually a girl. A pretty one at that but don’t get any ideas.
Finally we get to enjoy the first really good singer of the night and for me of the competition to this point.
I am no Country fan but 17 year old Skylar Laine was fabulous. I can see her in the top 12.
She has just about everything needed to make it here. One of the things I liked better about X Factor is the audition process allowed the contestant to use music in the audition.
It gave us a better idea of how they would sound. It also appeared to help them out with nerves.
But when someone sings a capella they have to bring the musicality solely in their voice.
Skylar really accomplished that. She showed the musicality of her voice and at only 17. She should be around a long time. I don’t think I’ll be jumping on her bandwagon but she will get some fans.
And I forgot to mention I am really tired of the back stories.
In fact starting next week I will be fast forwarding through them so I won’t know who’s about to lose a store or who’s getting a divorce with three kids or who was born with handicaps. So that will n o longer have an influence on me.
Next up is a girl I totally remember form season 6. I did not think it was that long ago. But I liked her then and really like her now.
It’s 21 year old, Baylie Brown. She was good then but is really good now. I could see myself getting behind her.
Although she has a bit a Country twang I think she can compete in the genres well. She has certainly matured. I see her in for a while this time.
