American Idol Rankings: Is Phillip The Most Polarizing Idol Contestant Ever? - Ranking The Top 4 Rankings and Commentary by Joseph Braverman

Does he care?
Wow, another week flew by for American Idol, and we unfortunately had to say goodbye to Skylar Laine.
It seems to me as if the most electrifying performers have gone home now, three weeks in a row.
Colton, Elise, and Skylar could tear apart a stage like it was made of feathered pillows, but for some reason America prefers three big voices and one white guy who can play guitar but not sing very well.
I’m not sure if this speaks to our nation’s musical taste, because it seems the Idol viewer and the record buyer are in two totally different mindsets.
Got thoughts? Post them at the end.
I will say, though, the talent this season has amazed me, and the consecutive weeks of great performances will make Season 11 go down as one of the best.
It may not have the all-around flawless quality of Season Five or the diverse personalities and artists of Season Ten, but there is something to be said about a consistent bout of quality.
Speaking of quality, let’s focus on its antonym – that being Phillip Phillips.
I’m not sure whether the cougar moms of America, or their teenage daughters, are keeping Phillip in despite his recent horrific performances, but something is surely in the air.
People are in the mood for love, and they are making that word synonymous with Phillip Phillip. I shudder at the thought.
Look, Phillip is best when he reinvents songs to fit his growls and singer-songwriter musician vibe, but when he barely puts in the effort at all, he just seems lazy and uncaring.
I can tell when Phillip is actually doing things for artistic reasons, where he tries to approach a song in a new way that holds artistic merit to him, but lately he just seems to think dropping a melody and adding a few different phrases means he’ll coast on by for the week.
The sad part is that his lazy method is working.
In last week’s article, there was a reader comment addressing Phillip’s constant struggle with illness, citing that as the reason why his performances and vocals have not been up to par.
I wholly sympathize with Phillip on this account, and I hope he continues to stay healthy and keeps making great music.
