American Idol Rankings: Joshua Is Right, This Is A Man’s World - Ranking The Top 3 Rankings and Commentary by Joseph Braverman
May 11, 2012
Will it be an all
male finale?
This week on American Idol, the top four performed to their utmost power in order to secure themselves a spot in the crucial Top 3.
And what did the judges do?
Well, they all but guaranteed which three remaining contestants they wanted to fill up those slots, leaving one particularly talented girl out to dry with approaching vultures.
Yes, my favorite contestant of Season 11 – the incomparably talented Hollie Cavanagh – has finally been given the heave-ho by America after fighting for weeks to stick around.
Hollie had a great run, but I guarantee you she would have made it to the end if the judges didn’t turn on her early on in the live shows.
Got thoughts? Post them at the end.
That, and the fact that girls consistently are judged at a higher standard than men.
It truly is a man’s world, like Joshua sang on Thursday, when Hollie gets a trip to Guantanamo over some minor problems while Phillip gets absolutely no flack for his murder of the melody and forgotten lyrics.
Yep, American Idol’s gender issue is still present and extremely dangerous.
Ever since that moment, Hollie was never able to truly recover. She scraped by the skin of her teeth each vote since the Top 9, and held on until the top four.
She should be proud of where she’s at, but what I am angered about is the disrespect and dismissal of talent Jimmy Iovine has shown Hollie all season long.
I’m not sure it’s fair for Jimmy to announce who he would sign to Interscope records when there are still many people left competing.
If it’s so easy to get a record deal, why not pull Phillip, Jessica, and Joshua away from the stress of the competition and call it a day.
Certainly, they don’t need Idol to win – Jimmy Iovine has said as much – so with his logic, doesn’t it make more sense to keep on the folks who do need Idol like Hollie, Colton, Skylar, and Elise?
Apparently not, as this Idol win will just be about bragging rights for the final three. There is no suspense.
We know each of them will get a record deal right out of the gate, and we know that Jimmy will shove them down our throats in a few months time.
