America's Next Top Model 13: Dive Deeper And Make No Excuses
Commentary and Recap by RTVC Staff Writer Kathleen
November 5, 2009
The winner is Nicole and she picks Sundai. Laura and Jennifer also get picked and Erin is left out. Sundai interviews that Erin didn’t get picked because she’s a brat.

Back at the house it’s time to celebrate Laura’s birthday. The girls have made cakes and goodies and it’s really all very sweet. Editing shows that Erin can, indeed, act like a brat and that Nicole is on task for the competition by not staying up late.

The girls continue their streak of making odd guesses regarding the Tyra mail. The reality is they are going out to sea to shoot underwater. There will be scuba tanks with air immediately available when they need it, but the point is to be graceful and interesting under water.

Sundai immediately interviews that the ear that she hurt yesterday will hurt worse under water. Laura interviews that her worst fears are drowning or suffocating. As they sail away Sundai says she’s getting sick from nerves and reveals that she also has asthma.

Once out in the water, Laura, who again volunteered to go first, started to panic but calmed herself down and did well. Nicole also did well and, as usual, followed directions to try something different. Jennifer stayed too close to the surface but on her second set of frames was able to go deeper and do well also.

Sundai and her excuses went next. The photographer noticed and was not impressed. Jay advised her but the results were ‘meh’. Erin was last and also stayed too close to the surface. The photographer was disappointed and with no second set of frames for her, Erin was done with the shoot.

The photographer had specifically said to go deeper. Shots near the surface could have been done in a swimming pool.

At judging panel Marisa joins the regulars as they review the challenge photos.

Sundai was commended for appearing to have very long elegant legs, but criticized for having lost the light on her face, for being too close to the surface and for her litany of excuses.

Laura was commended for having overcome her fears but was advised to not tell people about her fears as it is distracting. She was also advised to find the light a little better than she had.

Jennifer was praised for showing long long legs. Nigel loved the picture for its fantasy quality. Marisa said it was a little too vertical for her taste.

Nicole was praised for the energy and light. She appeared to be dancing which was unique and fun. Nigel found her feet to be an overwhelming distraction.

Erin was too close to the surface and was trying too hard. The photo of her face was lovely but it wasn’t recognizable as Erin. Tyra noted that no one will pay top model prices if the photo could have been of just anybody. During deliberation there was also discussion about Erin’s attitude and ability to take criticism.

The results are: Jen was called first with Nicole second but close; only because of her feet, said Tyra.

Laura was safe which left Sundai and Erin at the bottom.

Erin who has been falling week by week and has been in the bottom too many times is safe again.

Sundai was sent home for a poor picture in spite of two times the frames and ten times the excuses.

Top four next time. It should be exciting.
